Freak Of Nature

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I found this hubcap (hubcapius automotus) growing wild next to Santiam Hospital on 10th Ave. the other day. It seemed to be thriving (note the lack of rust), even though the weather has turned cold and damp. I was a little worried for it, because it seemed to be alone; I understand they do better [...]

More From The Stro’s Wednesday Nite Cruise-In

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Yesterday I posted some shots from a classic car cruise-in I attended a few nights ago. Today I thought I’d focus on some of the non-car things I spotted at the event, including the lively guy in the above photo. He was sitting in the passenger’s seat of one of the cars. I wonder if [...]

Spinning Kickbox

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Okay, I have two theories about this sign outside Stayton Fitness on 2nd Ave. The first one is ’spinning kickbox’ is a class designed around the premise that one must spin constantly while kickboxing. The very thought of that makes me so dizzy I want to… um, think about something else.
My other theory is they [...]

Do What With The What, Exactly?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

This sign I spotted at Neitling Park has me a bit perplexed. What is that thing the person on the sign is holding, and what does it do? And why is it pointing at that dog’s back end?
I don’t know, but I do have a few theories. 1) The end has a mirror on it [...]

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Guest photographer Moe sent me this funny photo of him sporting a green beard for St. Patrick’s Day, and I just had to post it. Now that is getting into the spirit of the holiday.

Where To Go To Pick Up Chicks

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

I saw the above the other day, and it made me giggle. So if any single person out there is wondering where to go to pick up chicks, here’s your answer — Wilco Farm Stores on 1st Avenue in Stayton, Oregon.
You’re welcome.

Tractor Seat Collection

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Guest photographer Moe sent along this interesting photo of a tractor seat collection. Yes, you read that right. Here’s Moe’s description:
Went to the Doerfler estate sale outside Sublimity on Thursday 02-21. Asked to see the collection of tractor seats. The old fellow at the house collected things, knives, bear traps, and tractor seats. It was [...]

Fax Copies

Monday, February 4th, 2008

This neon sign hangs in the window at Postal Connections on Shaff Rd. So, apparently they only fax copies but not original documents (’cause that would be fax originals), and then when those copies get faxed, the result is copies of copies, so those are fax copies copies, and so on.
Which is why I like [...]

Hey, Can I Get A Little Help?!

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

I’m beginning to notice a disturbing trend. A few days ago, I documented a certain Frosty the Snowman sleeping on the job. And just yesterday I found Santa Claus stuck in a chimney! This holiday season is just fraught with difficulties.
And Santa was doing so well, too. Over the weekend he looked fit and serious, [...]

Too Much Eggnog

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Exactly one year ago today I posted a photo of Frosty the Snowman face down in the dirt. Last year’s finding was disturbing, but I was willing to give ol’ Frosty the benefit of the doubt. It could have been an isolated incident.
That doesn’t appear to be the case, unfortunately. I found Frosty in exactly [...]

Stop City Of Stayton

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

This sign struck me as odd. When read as a whole, it clearly says, “Stop City of Stayton.” Stop them from doing what? It doesn’t say.
Stranger still, I think it was actually placed there by the city itself. Is the city engaging in some sort of compulsive behavior? Did it put out this sign as [...]

The Strangest TV I Ever Did See

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Although, now that I think about it, it does have about the same entertainment value.
This must be a utility box of some sort, but I’ve never seen one like it before. But then again, I don’t pay a lot of attention to those things. It was in an area where they’re building a [...]

Fix Me Wash Me

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I’m no mechanic, but this truck seems to be missing something. And apparently someone else thought so, too, because they wrote ‘fix me wash me’ in the dust on the door.

Just Like A Pill… Well, Kinda

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

There’s a pharmacy in town which uses the VW Beetle above (I think) to deliver medications to folks around town. It’s really rather creative — a VW Beetle, otherwise known as a Bug, with a bunch of pill bugs painted on it. It gets one’s attention.

A Distortion Of The Past

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

This mirror resides in the parking lot of the somewhat retro-oriented A&W restaurant on Washington St. It creates some nifty distortions… the guy in the photo looks like a giant compared to the children on either side of him. It makes me giggle.
