After a slight detour to post yesterday’s City Daily Photo theme day photo, we’re back to photos from the Santiam Heritage Foundation 9th Annual Garden Tour (see also: Moles’ End and Marion St.).

This house has come a long, long way. It was once rundown, but it’s been brought back to being quite the beauty. The house itself is adorable, and the garden is fantastic… very quiet and serene.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting photos from another garden. I also attended last night’s Stro’s Wednesday Nite Cruise-In, but I’m going to wait a few days to post those. I also have two guest photographer submissions to post. And the Independence Day stuff is on Saturday. Usually, I’m searching for something to post, but right now, I have more than enough. How very cool.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled garden tour post (see yesterday and the day before) to bring you this month’s City Daily Photo theme day, which I had completely forgotten about until yesterday.

The theme is “empty.” I couldn’t take a picture of the inside of my head, so instead I swung by the playground of the public elementary school, because I knew it was likely to be deserted (cue Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out”). During the school year, there are kids on the playground all the time, but not so much during the summer Kids do play on the playground from time to time when school’s out, but they tend to gravitate to the public parks instead.

The photo at right is part of the outdoor covered basketball court at the playground. Man, I wish it had been there when I was a kid at that school. I would have loved it. Ah, well.

Here’s another garden from the ninth annual Santiam Heritage Foundation garden tour to benefit the Brown House (see also: Moles’ End). This garden is on Marion St., near Pioneer Park. I had no idea there could be so much behind the house I’d passed by so many other times. the water runs through the property, and an adorable little red bridge spans a small section of it. The tall trees and bushes provide privacy, so it would be easy to forget there are any other people around. Beautiful.

Yesterday was the ninth annual Santiam Heritage Foundation garden tour to benefit the Brown House. I visited five places in all, and took a ton of photos. I thought I’d spread them out over several days, because the gardens were just too beautiful to cram them all into one or two days.

First up is Moles’ End on Norblad Lane. I want to live there. I have no idea what the inside of the house looks like, but that’s okay. It could be falling down and rotting for all care, I just want to hang out in the yard. It has everything, including a creek (okay, it’s technically a ditch, but it’s a very pretty ditch) bordering the backyard, plus a hammock which sits in the creek. It’s awesome.

I endeavored to actually post a non-flower photo today, since tomorrow and probably the next day will be flower-intensive. I’ll be attending the ninth annual garden tour to benefit the Brown House today, which means lots of flowers.

This building sits along the power canal off of Water St. It’s behind another building, near a small bridge which spans the canal. I don’t know what the building’s function is, but I think it’s kinda nifty.

I had grand plans to go out and take lots of photos yesterday, but real life kind of came along and put a stop to that. Instead, I popped out for a few minutes and ended up taking more flower photos. I can’t help myself.

These daises were found at the outside edge of the parking lot at Neitling Park.

We have a new guest photographer today! Kari Baker sent in this lovely photo taken at Silver Falls State Park, which is about 15 miles outside of Stayton. Her description:

We were up at Silver Falls last weekend and I liked this rock up at the North Falls. He seemed like a cheery fellow and looked like everybody ignored him next to waterfall close by. But he’s always watching and quiet.

Last night a benefit concert was held at the Star Cinema for Ken Cartwright, in order to help pay for some medical bills associated with some recent health problems. Ken, for those who don’t know, has done quite a lot for the Stayton area community, including organizing free concerts, running a community-based radio station, and many other things. It was great to see the community give something back to someone who has given so much.

The concert was hosted by local artist Paul Toews, and singer/comedian Joe Stoddard and the bluegrass band Old Circle performed. Stoddard did a variety of music, and did humorous impersonations of several artists, including Elvis and John Denver. Old Circle featured a 15-year-old young lady named Amy Hakanson on the fiddle who was more than kept up with musicians who’d been playing longer than she’s been alive.
