Book learnin'

Stayton Public Library - oregon

The library, located on 1st Ave., in Stayton sits next to the Brown House (see the How Now Brown House entry). Funds are currently being raised to expand the library.

This is actually the town's second library. The first one was about the size of an average hall closet. The current library sits where the old fire department was. The old library location was turned into a museum. I think it was a ladies' clubhouse before it was the library.

That's Stayton -- a municipal game of musical chairs.

Amusing note: as I recall, not long after the sign was installed, someone stole the 'L' in 'public.' It was replaced fairly quickly, for whatever reason.

Hi - I was rather pleased to see a Willamette Valley blog because I lived in Corvallis and Eugene some years ago. I see you're up by Salem and towards the mountains. Nice country. Enjoyed looking through your blog tonight, particularly the Brown House (I'm always a sucker for a big Victorian) and the sunset (very striking).

One thing I really missed about the U.S. is the library system. When other used to brag about their credit cards, I pulled out my library card and said: this cards gives much more pleasure, this is the only card I need.
