DP theme day - local supermarkets

Once a month, several of us city daily photo bloggers participate in a theme day. Today's theme is a typical supermarket in our hometowns.
My picture's of the fireworks on sale at my local Safeway, along with soda (we call it pop 'round here) and potato chips... in other words, the essentials of any good 4th of July celebration. You can also see a mini-bank, and on the far left is the all important candy bar section.
A bonus photo of the bakery department is at right, just because it looked... well, good enough to eat. Click on the thumbnail to see the full-sized photo.Today I'll be attending a concert sponsored by Safeway in the field next to the store. It will benefit prostate cancer awareness, and will last 6 hours. I, personally, won't last that long, but I'll give it my best shot. Should be fun. I'll more than likely post pictures from the event in the next day or two.

Wow, I've never seen fireworks being sold at the supermarket before! I think they are illegal here in California.
Felicia, they are illegal in California. I used to live there, so I can say that with certainty.
Celine, wow, that bakery shot is slurpilicious!!
Interesting to hear how they are involved in the local community. In the UK, although the big corporations donate to local causes, they don't get down and dirty.
I am suprised that they sell fireworks! But really, convienent. At the beginning of the 4th of July weekend, what more do you need than soda, fireworks, a mini bank and bakery items. :)
Thanks for all the comments. :)
It is indeed legal for grocery stores, etc., to sell fireworks here in Oregon. There are age restrictions... 16 and over, I think it is. You can even find sparklers and the like for sale just before New Year's Eve.
And, once you leave the store in the picture, you can go outside to the parking lot to buy more fireworks. And then you can go across the street. They're everywhere.
Safeway and fireworks! It does not sound very safe. We allow the sell of fireworks but ban there use in the city limits. Brovo for Safeway sponsorship of the concert.
Those cakes look yummy.
Regards
we havea safeway here too!!! I was thinking about photographing that haha
I too am surprised about the fireworks. Overhere, shops have to have a sprinkler installation, there are limits to the amounts stored, the emergency exits, a cooling installation I don't know what else...
which caused a lot of stores to stop selling. And i think they can only sell a couple of days before new year's eve.
