Daily Photo Theme Day: Taxis

Daily Photo Theme Day: Taxis

Today's City Daily Photo theme is "taxis." Since Stayton is too small to have actual taxis, my photo is of the CARTS (Chemeketa Area Regional Transport System), which provides a dial-a-ride service for Stayton and nearby Sublimity. It's mainly for "transportation disadvantaged" folks, but anyone can use it to go to the grocery store, bank, the doctor, etc., or whenever one needs to go in town. It runs on week days, and costs only a dollar each way.

44 Daily Photo sites are participating in the 1st October theme, please use the links to below to visit them.

Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.

Cool to feature this local form of taxi! So many folks, especially the elderly who no longer drive, rely on these to get to shopping and appointments. When I was a kid my mom called these "jitneys."

Fascinating to see the differnet ways transport adapts to the surroundings. And there I was thinking everyone in the US owned a car! ;-)

And in the U.S you are much more adapted to the handicapped than we are in Europe. These taxis would get stuck in the streets of Paris I can tell you!

Sublimity!

Now who wouldn't want a ride to Sublimity!!!

When my dad was very immobile he relied on community volunteer drivers to get to medical appts, and I think Mum will be soon for shopping etc. A very important service.
