DP Theme Day: A Photo from the Waist Down
Nov 30th
This month’s theme day was an interesting one — to photograph someone from the waist down. I didn’t end up taking my photo until two days ago, since I was having trouble finding an appropriate subject.
Think you can guess who the two men in my photo are doing? It shouldn’t be difficult — the red color should be a big clue. The first person to guess gets a postcard of the Stayton-Jordan Bridge from good ol’ Stayton, Oregon. Then you can tell all your friends you received a post from some place you likely couldn’t find on a map.
I’ll post the full photo tomorrow.
Several Daily Photo sites are participating in the 1st December theme, “A Photograph from the Waist Down.” Please use the links to below to visit them.
Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.

Making Seasons Bright
Nov 30th
Every year, Stayton hangs lighted Christmas decorations from various telephone poles on a few of the main streets of town. The photo above is of 2nd Ave., between the phone company and the post office. It always makes me smile to see the decorations every year.
By the way, today is the six month anniversary of this here blog. In honor of that, I want everyone to go eat something chocolate-y, or, whatever tastes really good to you if chocolate isn’t your thing. Okay? Good deal.
Rail Line
Nov 29th
Today we have a talented guest photographer, Dave Neilson from StaytonEvents.com. The photo above was taken just west of town where Rainwater Lane crosses the tracks, looking towards Stayton.
It’s simply beautiful, with the mountains in the back and the nifty perspective.
StaytonEvents.com is a great resource to find out what’s going on in town, from school games to holiday events to pretty much everything else.
You can see more of Dave’s photography on his personal web site. It’s definitely worth a look.
Thanks, Dave! Feel free to send photos this direction any time.

A Little Snow And Hail
Nov 28th
Monday brought a great big huge enormous weather event in the form of some hail and a bit of snow. It was simply terrible trying to trudge through the mildly damp street to get to the snow, which only stuck to yards and rooftops.
I decided to take my photo from a neighbor’s yard, since I don’t think they would have appreciated me trying to climb up onto their roof. I wouldn’t have appreciated me trying to do that, either.
For other Pacific Northwest snow photos, check out Seattle Daily Photo, Not Strictly Seattle, and Sequim Daily Photo, all in Washington.
We have a decided lack of Oregon daily photo blogs, being as I’m the only one in the City Daily Photo group. There was a Portland one for a bit, but it didn’t last. I’m so lonely. *sniff*
Rusted Door
Nov 27th
Back in August, I posted a photo of a nifty neon sign inside a building long since out of business in downtown Stayton. You can also see a photo I took of the building itself.
The structure is pretty run down, but it still fascinates me whenever I pass by. The photo above is of a side door which has seen better days, as has the painted exterior wall.
Be sure to visit Doorways Around The World, a nifty daily photo blog from Marie at Alexandria Daily Photo.
Christmas Is Coming…
Nov 26th
I guess there’s no denying it now — Christmas really is less than a month away. The above is my first Christmas lights sighting of the year. You can’t really see it in the photo, but there are still pumpkins sitting next to the porch of the house.
We used to go all out with lighting our house and yard, but it became far too large and expensive to maintain. People used to come to our neighborhood just to see our house. Neighbors would give us gifts for no reason. Random townsfolk would ask me if we were going to put up lights each year. It was fun while it lasted.
But, hey, if anyone wants to come over and do it for us, and then fix the lights every night when bulbs burn out or strings die for no apparent reason, and when the wind blows something over, and when squirrels chew through the cords… and, of course, pay the power bill, let me know.

Scenes From a Table
Nov 24th
I hope everyone who celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday had a great holiday. My brother and his family came out to our house and we ate entirely too much, talked too loud, and nobody got in a fight with anyone, so it was all good.
That’s my 14-year-old niece pictured above eating during Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t know why she suddenly became shy in front of the camera, because she’s usually anything but. Oh, wait, sure I do — she’s a teenager. It’s her job to be contrary.
FYI, her shirt says: "I can only please one person a day. Today is not your day."
Happy Turkey Day!
Nov 23rd
Happy Thanksgiving! It’s time to give thanks, so let me name a few things I’m thankful for:
This blog and its visitors and commenters (you rock!), all the daily photo bloggers out there (especially Eric at Paris Daily Photo for starting it all), my family (both two- and four-legged), and M&M’s (just because).
The photo above is another of the sky. The very rainy weather has prevented me from being able to go out and take photos, so I had to dig back to earlier this month when we still had blue skies. I hope to go out this weekend and take more photos. Wish me luck.
Mighty Sun
Nov 22nd
There’s been a bit of a battle going on the skies over Stayton — the sun vs. the clouds. And, unfortunately, the clouds are winning at the moment. I did manage to get a photo of the sun almost breaking through the other day. It was a glorious, albeit brief, moment.
In case you were wondering, that tall thing on the bottom left is a light post in a parking lot. It reminds me of a helmet.
