They've arrived

They've Arrived - a Starbucks inside a Safeway in Stayton Oregon

Stayton has acquired its first and (thus far) only Starbucks. It's been wedged into part of our local Safeway, which is one of our two grocery stores. There are people in line for coffee whenever I pass by, so apparently folks are happy to have it.

I'd be happier if it weren't crammed into Safeway, which was already crowded. They took out three check-out lanes to fit it in the store, and Starbucks has some loud machines, which are distracting. C'est la vie, I suppose.

I do not hate Starbucks, but it's like a virus. It's everywhere and spreading quickly.
We have one in town now. I haven't tried local one but whenever I went to Wellington (NZ), I'll have a mug of coffee there. I will be sitting by the window and watching people, same as ordinary cafe.

Ben, I don't hate them, either. I'm just annoyed at how crowded and noisy the grocery store is now. It wouldn't have bothered me if Starbucks had built their own shop, or moved into someplace less crowded.

It seems like Starbucks crams in everywhere. We have one in a Target. But, I've never seen a "Starbucks stand" like the one you've got!

Personally I hit the Daily Buzz Coffee in front of Safeway/Starbucks because I'm lazy and can pull up in my Jeep and the girls are all nice. I like to support local bussiness. The Buzz gals are handing out bumper stickers that say "friends don't let friends drink Starbucks." , which I think is a hoot.

Victoria, I hadn't seen one like it, either. They'll put one in anywhere they can, apparently.

Jeepgirl, I had a great strawberry smoothie at the Daily Buzz not long ago (I ride a scooter, so I don't normally do drive-throughs... it gets complicated), and you're right, the people who work there are very friendly. That bumper sticker is great.

A long-time popular neighbourhood cafe located in a historic building for many years needed to renew the lease on their space. That had never been a problem before. Property owner wouldn't renew and ordered them to vacate when the lease expired. When they moved out, the evil empire began renovations on the space. Rather than locate in a nearby location, the empire overpaid for the space to eliminate any competition. I never drink their stuff out of principle.

Celine, I totally agree with you. Yap, it's just annoying, if a stand is in the busy section. Very good shot, by the way!
