Through The Trees
Apr 30th
Last June I posted a photo of the Brown House (see the link for details on the significance the house holds for Stayton). Well, today I bring you… a back window of the Brown House! Isn’t this just thrilling?
It was taken from the other side of a small creek which runs along the house and through some trees.
That makes it, I suppose, an “over the creek and through the woods to the Brown House window we go” shot.
In other news, in exactly one month this here photo blog will be a year old. Whoo.
Calla Lily
Apr 29th
The official line is I bought this calla lily for my mother. It sounds better than saying I bought this plant so I could take random photos of it until I got bored and then let my mother plant it or put it in a pot or whatever one does with such things.
Anyway, there are flowers in bloom all over town now. Sometimes I can even identify one or two… provided they have helpful tags stuck in them like the lily did when I bought it. Otherwise I’m clueless.
A few other photos of the lily (click on each thumbnail to see bigger views):

Super Squirrel
Apr 28th
Stayton is not without its superheroes. As you can see from this photographic evidence, this common looking squirrel has a skill not found in regular squirrels — he can fly.
I expect this to be important news now that it’s been made public. This will be bigger than Britney Spears’ or Paris Hilton’s latest fiascoes, bigger than who should be booted off American Idol next week, bigger than even Donald Trump’s comb-over. Yes, friends, it will be huge.
If you’re in the neighborhood of Pioneer Park and see a squirrel, pay extra close attention. There may be more to him/her than meets the eye.
Rottweiler
Apr 27th
I spotted this adorable dog (male, judging by its size) in a parking lot, in the back of a truck with two other dogs. My own rottweiler won’t pose for me (she has an aversion to holding still), but this dog was more than happy to sit there while I clicked away.
By the way, did you know my browser’s spell-check wants me to change ‘rottweiler’ to ‘potboiler’? I don’t think I will.
Cow & Bird
Apr 26th
One of the creatures on this weather vane is living and the other isn’t. Can you guess which one?
The weather vane is on top of a very nifty building called the Red Barn, which happens to be red and also a barn. I’ve tried to take pictures of said very nifty building, but I’m afraid they all suck. But I’ll keep trying.
I took this within a few minutes of the European starling photo I posted a few days ago, and I think the little bird on the vane is also a starling.
Guitar Wall
Apr 25th
Yesterday I had the pleasure of drooling over several very pretty musical instruments at Cartwright’s Music on 3rd Avenue. The owner, Ken Cartwright, graciously let me take photos of the pretties. I intend to go back and take more. Photos, that is.
I personally own two guitars, one of which I bought from Cartwright’s earlier this month. I can’t actually play either instrument as of yet, but let us not worry about such insignificant details.

Take a Seat
Apr 24th
This here bench resides just off of 3rd Avenue. I have nothing more to say about this photo, other than you can see the bench’s twin in the middle part of the picture.
Well, okay, if you look past the stop sign, you can sort of make out the funky old garage I posted back in July of last year.
That’s it. Nothing else to see here. Move along to the next photo, or visit some of the other daily photo blogs (links at right). G’wan, get to it.
Ready For Liftoff
Apr 23rd
This cute little fella/gal was hanging out on a telephone wire yesterday. Click on the thumbnail at right for another view.
I tried to figure out what kind of bird he/she is, but I haven’t a clue. Anyone know? If you could leave a comment, I’d be most appreciative.
UPDATE: Abraham Lincoln at Brookville (Ohio) Daily Photo has helpfully identified the bird as a common starling. Thanks, Abraham!
Warning: No Trespassing
Apr 22nd
This gate sits next to a building housing Cartwright’s Music on 3rd Avenue. I posted a side shot of the building earlier this month.
One would think I’d take a photo of the front of a building. Maybe someday.
