Ready For Liftoff

Ready for Liftoff in Stayton Oregon

Bird on a WireThis cute little fella/gal was hanging out on a telephone wire yesterday. Click on the thumbnail at right for another view.

I tried to figure out what kind of bird he/she is, but I haven't a clue. Anyone know? If you could leave a comment, I'd be most appreciative.

UPDATE: Abraham Lincoln at Brookville (Ohio) Daily Photo has helpfully identified the bird as a common starling. Thanks, Abraham!

It is a common starling. Or it looks like the thousands of starlings that came here this past winter for lunch. It is a nice photograph.

What a fantastic shot! That starling (I won't doubt Mr. Lincoln's word) is certainly expressing himself!!

It looks positively fierce, and it's dangerous around airports, too!

What a colourful creature! And I like the blue of the background as well for it's a nice combination.

It's a great bird photograph, and quite unusual I'd say. (it's a great photograph full stop, actually) I'm wondering if this is a young bird. It has that "feed me" look about it, while tentatively trying it's wings out. However I don't know anything about birds really, and I'm not sure if a young bird would be perched like this

Richard, I think the starling's full grown. I just happened to capture him when he was flapping his wings. He'd also been honking off and on, so that might be why his mouth is open.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.
