A Prickly Situation

A Prickly Situation

I stopped near someone's front yard the other day and discovered the pointy thing above. I was surprised to see it growing here, as I didn't think cacti grew in this part of the country. I think it's a prickly pear, but if someone knows more than I, please leave a comment. I would appreciate it.

In other news, I have a bit of an addition to yesterday's bovine bonanza. I've just started experimenting with an "out of bounds" technique, which is intended to make part of the photo appear as if it's coming out of a frame. I tried it out on the cows from yesterday's photos. Click here for the result. I still have more to learn about it, but it's an interesting thing to try.

It is a nice picture of the flower and the needles look like they are anxious to stick you. I like it.

Thanks for your visits to my blog.

I think that the pink/rose bud is striking on the cactus. I checked your link, too. It's a hoot!

I think you are right, it is a prickly pear cactus. They grow wild on the hillsides here in San Diego. Later, the blossom turns into a small fruit that can be eaten (I've seen them for sale at the grocery store). I think your photo is superb!
