The Happy Flamingo

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

This cute fella lives on the front outside wall of a small building on 3rd Ave. I can’t remember what the building houses (that would require me to pay attention), but I know it doesn’t have anything to do with flamingos.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for the City Daily Photo monthly theme day. It [...]

Bird & Hat Inn

Friday, June 29th, 2007

This lovely house is a bed and breakfast on 3rd Ave. I’ve never been inside, but I always enjoy passing by, as they maintain the yard beautifully. I’d love to just wander around the place and take pictures. Think the guests would mind?
Stayton itself doesn’t have an actual hotel or motel (though there’s [...]

Tin Man

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

When the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz retired, he realized he needed a job to make ends meet. Thus, he worked part-time as a lamp post. It was an easy job. Really, his heart just wasn’t in it.

This lamp post resides on Fern Ridge Rd. Who knew Stayton had a celebrity [...]

Police Bike

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I saw this beauty in the parking lot of the police station on Monday. I hadn’t seen it before, so it was a happy find.
It’s really very pretty. My little Honda scooter was jealous.

Fish

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

I spotted this carved fish alongside the road, and it inspired a poem:
A Fish Made Of WoodBy Celine Chamberlin
A fish made of woodWouldn’t taste very goodNor would it go down well
A fish made of woodDoesn’t swim as it shouldAt least, not that I can tell
A fish such as thisIs quite hard to missAnd its carving [...]

A Little Reflection

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Here’s another photo I took at the “Saturday In The Park” concert over the weekend. The stage was set up on the back of a semi truck’s trailer, and the wheels of the truck were too pretty to ignore.
What can I say, I like chrome.
If you look at the middle of the wheel, you can [...]

Saturday In The Park

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Yesterday was the 2nd annual “Saturday In The Park” benefit concert, headlined by the local band, Centerline Tragedy.
The concert started with Centerline Tragedy’s former incarnation, Drift, playing a set before Centerline took the stage. In between sets, a couple of folks sang karaoke and there was a coloring contest for the kids. And, perhaps most [...]

Wild Poppies

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

I found these lovely poppies growing wild in an empty lot on either 4th or 5th Ave. I think. It could have been 6th Ave. I really should pay more attention to where I am when I take pictures.
Or just in general.
The photo at right is another shot of a poppy, in all its yellow-orange [...]

Road Warrior

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I caught this guy pulling out of the parking lot at the classic car show I attended two nights ago.
He’s wearing an Oregon State University Beavers shirt. The OSU baseball team is presently kicking posterior end at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Go, Beavs.

Stro’s Wednesday Nite Cruise-In

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Last night, I was surrounded by over one hundred beauties like the one above. I finally managed to go to one of the twice monthly cruise-in events held at A&W Restaurant.
I posted over 40 photos to a Flickr photoset if you’d like to see more of the cars. And a dog. ‘Cause the dog was [...]

Baby Bunnies Lifejackets

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

This sign outside Stayton Animal Supply has me wondering… does this mean they carry life jackets for baby bunnies or life jackets made of baby bunnies? I was afraid to go inside and check.

A Bovine Extravaganza II

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

A couple of months ago I posted some photos of some black cows who live in town. Since last time was such a moooooving experience, I decided to visit with them again over the weekend. Below are more photos of the lovely ladies (click on the thumbnails to see ‘em supersized):

Coming Soon To A Living Room Near You

Monday, June 18th, 2007

I went wandering around the edge of a Christmas tree field on the corner of 10th Ave. and E. Pine St. yesterday, the same field I featured a year ago. After all, it makes sense to post a photo of Christmas trees in June. Doesn’t it?
Anyway, the trees are a bit taller now and still [...]

Bird On A Street Light

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

I can’t remember why right now, but I pulled over to the side of the road yesterday, and this bird was sitting pretty on top of a street light right by where I pulled over.
So I took its picture.
And now I’ve posted it.
Yay.

Nature’s Beaker

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Today’s photo is of the last vestiges of a red hot poker / torch lilly / kniphofia uvaria flower. To me, it looks like nature’s version of Beaker from The Muppet Show.
The flowers are much prettier when they’re in full bloom, but I didn’t happen upon it in time for that.
