Over the Hospital

This is a large windsock which lives on top of the hospital. It sits next to the helipad used by the Life Flight emergency helicopter.
Yes, it does look like a certain form of birth control.
For a bit of perspective on where the windsock is, here's a daytime photo of the helipad. The windsock can be seen on the top of the building.

Wednesday Night @ 10pm

Things get wild and wacky when the sun goes down here in big ol' Stayton. Yep. As you can see above, everyone swarms to one of the busiest places in town -- that's right, the parking lot of a Safeway grocery store.
Okay, so life is pretty quiet after dark around here. The vast majority of stores, etc., are closed, and other than a few bars and the single-screen movie theater, there aren't really any recreational activities. Unless you consider the claw toy machine thing inside Safeway to be a rip roarin' good time.
It's okay if you do. I won't judge. ;)

Looking Up

I like trees. That's probably obvious to those who visit regularly, since I tend to post a lot of photos of trees.
So here's one more, this time of some Douglas-fir trees. It's another 'up' perspective, somewhat similar to the Spring Blossoms photo I posted a few days ago... except with a lot more trees. It was taken at Pioneer Park.

Leaves Alight

Do you know what would be nifty? If I could point my digital camera at something, say the leaves of some sort of plant or bush, and the display would tell me what type of bush or plant it is. Because, frankly, most of the time I am absolutely clueless (on so, so many things).
Such is the case with these leaves. All I know is where I found them, which is Pioneer Park. I don't know anything more than that. Sometimes I'm amazed I can manage to turn on the camera and take a picture. ;)

Rusted Bolt

This here is a rusty old bolt on a faded on stop sign. Why did I take a picture of a rusty old bolt on a faded old stop sign? Because it was there, I was there, and sometimes I'm liable to point my camera at any old thing and press the shutter.
This particular sign resides in the Bi-Mart parking lot on Shaff Rd. So if any of you are in the area, won't you stop and, uh, say hi to a rusty old bolt on a faded old stop sign?
Note: the preceding photo caption is what happens when one posts in the middle of the night after one's dog wakes one up so one's dog can go outside and go potty.

Spring Blossoms

I decided to get all artsy and stuff and shoot today's photo looking up the trunk of a cute little blossoming tree. 'Cause, ya know, that's never been done before.
Or not.
Anyway, are these cherry blossoms? Some other sort of blossoms? Are they a figment of our collection imaginations? Who's to say? But they are pretty, whatever they may be.
Once again, I couldn't decide which photo to post, so click on the thumbnails below to see a few more:

Spring Daffodils

I just love spring. It starts to get warmer, the days start to last longer, all the deciduous trees start coming back to life, and the flowers start to bloom. I especially love the flowers. I saw a whole bunch of daffodils in a yard yesterday, and had to take some photos.
And since I couldn't decide which photo to post, click on the thumbnails below to see a couple more of the pretties:

300th Post!

Somehow, despite my very real tendency to procrastinate and then eventually forget pretty much everything, I've actually managed to post a photo every single day for the last 300 days.
How did the heck did that happen?
Beats me. It's strange. Anyway, so this here is post/photo 300. It's actually a photo I took last autumn, but I was going through my photo archives and thought it worth sharing. It was taken at a small duck pond off of Fern Ridge Rd.
Thanks to all who visit and especially to the folks who leave comments... they're always greatly appreciated.

Moon Blur

Last night I was all set to take a picture of the moon. It was all pretty and stuff. So I went to get my tripod and discovered I had misplaced the little thing which attaches the camera to the tripod. Because I'm dork.
So I decided to try it anyway. It didn't work. But I do kinda like the blur I got instead.
So that's today's contribution -- a blurry photo of a moon sliver. I feel like I've really done something useful. Or not.

The Streak

This is a two second exposure of a car's tail lights. It looks to me like something out of Star Wars. Perhaps Han Solo's blaster shooting some storm trooper or something. Dunno.
The above was taken on Locust St. in front of the high school.

After Sunset

Here's another shot of the late evening sky (and a handy link to the photo I posted yesterday).
For those who care, the photos were taken on the corner of 3rd Ave. and Fern Ridge Rd. If you want to see a sunset, that's probably the best place to go in town.

Stayton In Green

I thought I'd post a photo mosaic in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day. That's because when I think of Stayton, I think of the color green. There are trees, bushes, grass, etc., almost everywhere one looks.
So here's Stayton in green. And since I'm too sleepy to link to the individual blog pages for each photo, here are their links at Flickr, so you can see them full-size, if you're so inclined:

Night School

Today's photo is a night shot of part of the public elementary school. The window-oriented part houses classrooms, while the part on the left leads to the office.
I took the photo from the school's parking lot. Back when I went to school there, that area was part of a playground, but more kids meant a need for an actual parking lot, which it didn't really have before. The rest of the playground was expanded on the other side of the building.
By the way, Stayton Daily Photo is perilously close to its 300th post. I think it will be next Friday, if I've counted right. Thanks to all who visit and make it worth doing every day.

Fence Posts

I'm apparently on a 'rural' photo kick. Today's photo was taken on E. Santiam St. of some fence posts bordering a field, and a house sitting prettily behind them.

One Way

Today's photo (as opposed to... well, some other day's photo, I suppose) is of a 'one way' sign and a field next to the methodist church on Fern Ridge Rd.
So, like, go that one way and not the other, 'kay? ;)

Seventh-Day Adventist Church

Today's photo is of the Seventh-Day Adventist church on Fern Ridge Rd. This is about a block away from the Calvary Lutheran Church I posted yesterday, and a few blocks down the road from two other churches, all along Fern Ridge Rd.

Calvary Lutheran Church

In my quest to photograph all the churches in Stayton, I bring you today's photo is of the Calvary Lutheran Church on the corner of 1st Ave. and Fern Ridge Rd.
Tomorrow I'll post a photo of another church just down the road from this one. Stay tuned.

Stayton Library Expansion Update

I've been posting photos here and there over the last handful of months, documenting the expansion efforts at the Stayton Public Library.
This is the latest, taken a few days ago. I was surprised to see so much progress since I last posted a photo of the library back in February. It looks good.

Stayton Plaza

The Stayton Plaza is a shopping are on 1st Ave. No special reason for posting... I just like the sign.
The Plaza has a video store, a couple of discount stores, a few restaurants, a bank, etc. Most of the buildings have been around for decades. Despite the stores changing over the years, they still remind me of being a kid and going to one of them for various things... getting a toy or school supplies when I was little, walking to the grocery store during lunch in high school... simple little things.

Stayton Bowl

Stayton has a bowling alley, but it's a bit under the weather at the moment. Or, rather, a bit exposed to the weather. The roof decided to cave in one day, so the building's been closed for some time, now. It appears they're working on fixing it. I hope so. That place has been around for many years, and I'd hate to see it closed permanently.

Slide

This is a slide at Northslope Park, a beautiful neighborhood park in northeast Stayton. I've always liked slides. I mean, you can slide down, and if you're really feeling enterprising, you can climb back up, too.
Or you can just sit at the top of the slide and annoy those who are waiting for their turn to use the slide. Not that I would do that, I'm just saying it's possible. ;)

Sun Rays

Stayton actually had some sun, a marked change from the last... well, way too long. So here's some sun shining on some cement. Because nothing says "wow, look at that lovely sun!" like looking at it on cement littered with fir needles and sticks.

A Flock of... Dunno

I heard these birds squawking before they made their appearance overhead... and I still managed to get only one non-blurry photo. I'm not sure what kind of birds they are... seagulls? I just don't know. They didn't stop to chat, so I couldn't ask.

Lattice

Today's photo has no real purpose (it's a lot like me in that respect). It's just lattice from a fence. But I think it's pretty, so I'm posting it.
I really need to take some new photos around town, don't I?

Lawn Care

I have an appreciation for those who care for cemeteries, like the man in the above photo. I think we tend to take them for granted... and I'm not just saying that because my mother runs (on a volunteer basis) a cemetery in Portland. ;)
This photo was taken back in September at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. The cemetery has several old upright stones, so I bet it's quite the task keeping the lawn mowed with all those obstacles in the way.

Sky In the Evening

Yesterday I posted a photo by guest photographer Ronda Faught of a light snowfall the Stayton area experienced the other day. Today's photo, taken by Ronda on the same day, shows the evening sky showing a dramatic transition away from snow. Simply a beautiful photo.

Snow In the Morning

Guest photographer Ronda Faught captured the above image of a brief snowfall in the Stayton area a few days ago. Tomorrow I'll post another image from Ronda of a very different looking sky taken on the same day.
Aren't the branches on the trees rather nifty? For some reason, it looks to me like the fir tree on the left is trying to hug the one on the right.
The photo was taken in nearby Sublimity.

DP Theme Day: Men At Work

Each month several of us daily photo bloggers post a photo based on a theme. This month's theme is 'men at work.' The men above are working on the building expansion for the Stayton Public Library, which should be completed this year. I can't wait.
Over 60 Daily Photo sites are participating in the 1st March theme, "Men at work", please use the links to below to visit them.
Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.
