Shimanek Bridge

Shimanek Bridge - a covered bridge outside of Scio Oregon
Shimanek Bridge In B&WI get asked from time to time if I've ever taken any photos of the Shimanek covered bridge outside of nearby Scio. I finally got the chance to do so a couple of days ago thanks to my friend, Steve.

The site of the bridge has had five iterations, possibly dating as far back as 1861 (Oregon.gov has a Acrobat PDF on the bridge's history). This most recent version was built in 1966, and is one of the newer covered bridges in Oregon.

The bridge is located on Richardson Gap Rd., and spans Thomas Creek.

Tomorrow I'll be posting a photo (or two) of another covered bridge, Larwood Bridge, which resides not far from Shimanek.

How funny - I took a bunch of photos of Shimanek a few weeks back with the intent to send them to you, but I didn't get around to it. Keep going straight, right through this bridge, through the stop sign, and about 3 miles up, you'll find the Lighthouse Farm Animal Sanctuary...the kindest place in Oregon! I travel this exact route every second Saturday for volunteer day! Want some cool shots of the animals? I have about 1,325,678 of them. :-) :-)

farmgirl_dk: Yes! I would love it if you shared your photos from the farm. That would be awesome. Maybe one or two or three of your faves?

Annie, thank you! Happy new year to you, too.

Thanks, Celine!! I have sent you 3 (+3) pictures of the Lighthouse Farm Animal Sanctuary on Richardson Gap Road. (It was so hard to choose.) :-)
Delete what you don't like - I've got *plenty* more ...As I sent these, I realized I'm a bit stuck on the "close up" photo concept right now.

Sent to you at: site@specialweb.com

Like your pictures of Larwood, this bridge is very well captured and presented. Good technical quality and nicely composed.

I like how you've included both BW and color versions of both bridges and shown from different perspectives.

Kudos to you for some darned fine photography!
