Things That Go Crackle In The Night

Early yesterday morning, my dog woke me up by sitting on my bed and growling at something. That's not unusual, but his persistence finally made me get up to see what was going on. I'm glad I did -- the front door of my house had caught fire. Thankfully, the local police and fire department acted very quickly, and made sure the damage was minimal. We still have our house, our pets, and our lives.
I want to thank the fire fighters, the police, the investigators from all the departments, and anyone else who helped us yesterday. I respect the heck out of each and every one of you, as does my entire family. What you do for the community is invaluable.
And thanks to my dog, Rex, too. He probably saved our lives by letting us know something was wrong.

Thank goodness you all are fine. Thats one of the things I get scared about, is a fire at night. Any idea how it started? Fast thinking to get some pics. Now I guess you will have to get some for the insurance guy.
Thank you, Jim. I don't know how it started... the police are still investigating.
The insurance folks have already been to the house, and will be coming back today. They've been very quick about the whole thing, which has been a big help. They changed out the damaged door, got our power back on, made sure the furnace and electricity was okay, plus some other stuff I'm forgetting.
Wow! You are very, VERY fortunate indeed. Rex deserves more than a few extra dog treats.
Fire can, and does spread at a frightening pace.
When I was 5 years old our house caught fire and burned to the ground. It was on a Saturday morning. Everyone was awake and in the house at the time. We escaped wearing only what we had on. Literally nothing was saved but our lives. But, then, that is most precious keepsake of all.
Cripes Celine, I'm so glad that you are all fine!! Cook Rex a big 'ole steak, what a good boy!

I heard the sirens. I didn't know that it was your house. So very happy that you and yours are safe.
I think Gene’s Meat Market may be a few steaks short this week.
Thank you, everyone. Rex is definitely the hero around here. He's had more rawhide chew toys than I could count, which has made him rather happy. :)
Hopefully one of these days, I'll be able to sleep after it gets dark again. This really puts into perspective how very lucky we were it wasn't worse, and my heart goes out to those who experience or have experienced far worse.
What a close call and bless the dog! Plerase get smoke detectors for your home if you don't already have one!
Thanks, Carla. We actually had 3 smoke detectors, but none of them went off. They were all in one end of the house, and the fire happened on the other end. The main smoke detector proved to be faulty (it was replaced), and the other two were in bedrooms and apparently didn't go off either. We have new ones now.
Celine, thank the Lord you and your house were saved. I saw on the news about arson going on and don't know if that involves your hose, but pray that whoever is doing that will get tripped up ASAP. I'm going to go check our smoke alarms right now.
I saw the same article, and thought in kind.

Yes, our house is one of the ones hit. I didn't want to say anything before because it hadn't been released to the media yet. We don't live in the manufactured home park where most of them have occurred, though.
Thank you all for your concern. It is greatly appreciated.
OMG - this is horrible. I'm so glad you are all ok. How frightening. My thoughts are with you guys!!
