I ventured out yesterday to where they’re building the new foot bridge over the power canal where the old woolen mill used to be. They haven’t added anything new since guest photographer John Brandt was there… the only change I could see was they removed the wood molds around the concrete. Instead, I ventured a More >

If you were able to look to the left of yesterday’s photo, you would have seen the above. Which is what you’re seeing now, so I guess you can, after all. I went out with the intent of going further down Boedigheimer Rd., which is just outside of Stayton, than I’d been previously. Instead, I made it to the top of the first hill and found it was so windy, I could hardly keep my scooter upright. As you can see in the photo above, it’s More >

Guest photographer Patrick noticed this nice bit of irony last week outside the Santiam Historical Museum. His description: I took this photo last week. In my own little world I saw the photo as ironic: a sizable tree (with history to it) was being removed from in front of the Historical Society Museum. Anyway, thought More >

It’s been a remarkably long time since I last posted a photo of my favorite Stayton landmark (February, to be exact), so it’s high time to do it again. Oh, Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park, I just can’t stay away. You call to me like a siren’s song. Or that could be tinnitus. Whichever. Speaking More >

I’ve been ill this week, so going out and taking pictures hasn’t been working out. I took this in mid-July at Campbell-Grier Cemetery just outside of town.

Guest photographer John Brandt took today’s photo of a dead tree (or part of a tree) in Wilderness Park he doesn’t expect to survive another winter. I haven’t been through that park in some time. I really need to do it again very soon. Once the temperature cools down a bit, that is.

Guest photographer Terri Jo Adams sent in today’s photo of a lovely tree at Lone Oak Cemetery. Her description: This isn’t all that unusual of a picture, I just have always thought this was one of the most beautiful Oak trees I’ve ever seen….. It is beautiful. I always enjoy looking at the trees there. More >

Stayton is almost completely surrounded by country roads (the exception is the north side where Sublimity is located, not far down the road). There are a lot of scenes like the one above — trees, grass, and clouds. I took this particular shot along Kingston-Jordan Dr., just south of town, over the weekend.

I am not the most consistent of people. Four years ago, when I made the impulse decision to start this photoblog after seeing a few other City Daily Photo blogs, I was fully convinced I would do it for a few months, and then I would fizzle out on it like I do most other More >

This has been an enjoyable chronicle of snow — today’s is very beautiful. We’ll see what the rain brings…

Hi Celine,
Has been a while since my last visit to your site… I have enjoyed paging back through autumn into winter. You really have a very keen eye for catching the extraordinary sites around Stayton. I *really* like your Christmas Day collage.
And the “neener neener” in me has secretly enjoyed listening to my father-in-law talk of shoveling several times in Aumsville, and seeing your pictures of nearly as much snow in Stayton as we’ve got here in Iowa.
Keep up the good work and Happy New Year.

Hi Celine,
Haven’t visited the site for a while. You provide a beautiful and entertaining journey through autumn and winter in the Stayton area. You have a keen eye for extraordinary things that are fun to see – particularly when I miss the area so much. (I have to admit, I may have smirked a bit when I saw the snow pictures… the Valley has gotten as much in the past two weeks as we have gotten here in Iowa!)
Keep up the great work and Happy New Year!

Michelle, you rock. It was rather odd how much snow we got around here. Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment.

Celine!
Are you okay? Just read a couple of your entries here that said you haven’t been able to get out to take photographs… a bit concerned about ya… that’s all!

Hey, Shannon! Yeah, I’m fine. The snow and ice kept me home, and then it started raining like crazy. I did get out today, but I took all of two photos.
Thanks for caring, Shannon… I really appreciate it.
