Mail Chariot

Mail Chariot - a US post office mail delivery truck in Stayton Oregon

Yesterday I had planned on going out to take some non-macro shots, but it was kind of hot outside and I was kind of not feeling well, so I stayed home. But, I did manage to find a non-macro I took last week, so let us be thankful and rejoice. Or not.

Anyway, this mail delivery truck was parked on N. 6th Ave., and even though I'm pretty sure the mail carrier in the truck thought I was strange (not that he would be wrong, of course), I took its picture. And then I played with it, and desaturated the background, soft focused the truck (I have no idea why), and if I remember correctly I did some sort of blending of layers or something. I was bored.

Burst

Burst - a macro of a clematis flower in bloom in Stayton Oregon

Burst Of Color - a macro of a clematis flower in bloom in Stayton OregonSeeing as I'm still stuck in macro mode after getting a macro lens, today's photo is of *gasp* a flower macro. Again. Today's photo is of a clematis flower I found growing alongside the road between the south ends 3rd and 4th St.

I don't normally alter the color of a photo like this, but it just kind of worked in a selenium tone. For those who prefer it, I've also included a thumbnail to the photo in color (click on it to see it larger).

I'll do my darnedest to take a picture today of something non-macro, but I'm not making any promises. Having a macro lens is too much fun.

Power At Rest

Power At Rest - a Yamaha motorcycle in Stayton Oregon

Frequent visitors to this blog might have noticed I kind of have a thing for motorcycles. So whenever I see one around town, I have to stop and take its picture. Which is what I did yesterday when I spotted this Yamaha parked in front of a building on 3rd Ave. It's very pretty. And shiny. And pretty.

Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?

Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? - the center of a dead dandelion flower in Stayton Oregon

I acquired a used macro lens on Friday, so I've kind of been taking photos of really small things the last few days. I'm going to have to force myself to think bigger again.

So for today, I'm posting a macro shot of what's left of a dandelion flower. I'm trying to remember where I took this, but I'm not sure. Not that it matters, since dandelions can be found anywhere.

Spinning Kickbox

Spinning Kickbox - a reader board at Stayton Fitness in Stayton Oregon

Okay, I have two theories about this sign outside Stayton Fitness on 2nd Ave. The first one is 'spinning kickbox' is a class designed around the premise that one must spin constantly while kickboxing. The very thought of that makes me so dizzy I want to... um, think about something else.

My other theory is they have spinning boxes, and the classes teach you various ways to kick them. I hope they're sturdy spinning boxes.

Either way, it sounds interesting.

I suppose it's possible these are, in fact, two separate classes. If that's the case, maybe I'll develop my two theories into actual classes and sell them to various gyms and fitness centers and make loads of money. I'll be rich, rich I tell you!

The End Is Nigh

The End Is Nigh - a walkway at Stayton Elementary School in Stayton Oregon

Today's photo is of a walkway which runs alongside the parking lot at the back of the public elementary school. I took this just before full darkness.

By the way, I'd like to thank Ralph Stevens for letting me know the trees in yesterday's post are flowering cherry trees of the Kwanzan variety. I very much appreciate the info, as I obviously was pretty clueless on the matter.

Walk Through Spring

Walk Through Spring - blossom trees at Neitling Park in Stayton Oregon

The blossom trees (Cherry? Plum? Dunno) at Neitling Park have turned a lovely shade of pink. At least, they had a handful of days ago. With the guest photographers over the last few days, I had to wait to post it, so who knows what the trees look like today.

I had been waiting for the trees to bloom so I could try this shot of the path lined in pretty color. I'm glad it finally happened.

Little Giant

Little Giant - a crane somewhere between Lyons and Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer Jordan Lambert provided us with another nifty HDR photo (see also the photo from yesterday), this time of a crane called Little Giant. His description:
The crane is an old rail road crane on the same dead end road as the
motorcycle picture. I like that it is still in use at its age and the
title on the front says it all. "Little Giant". Very fitting for such
a well used machine.
Thanks, Jordan, for your contributions.

Somewhere Down A Dead End Road

A dirt bike somewhere between Stayton and Lyons Oregon

Guest photographer Jordan Lambert sent in today's photo. His description:
It was taken between Stayton and Lyons April 26th on a dead end road. It was an awesome day for riding and an awesome day for pictures as well. I'm so happy that spring may actually be here to stay.
Tomorrow's photo will be another from Jordan, so stay tuned.

Neon Star

Neon Star - part of the neon sign at the Star Cinema in Stayton Oregon

I went to the Star Cinema last night to see "Iron Man" (which I loved). While I was there, I took the opportunity to take another photo of the vintage neon sign outside the theater. Part of the lettering wasn't lit, so I focused on the star and overall colorful nature of the sign instead.

By the way, a big hello to the nice folks I met outside the theater, who asked if I run Stayton Daily Photo. It was good to meet you.

Down At The A&W

Down At The A&W Restaurant in Stayton Oregon

Today's photo is another from my nighttime wanderings around town. This is part of the A&W Restaurant on Washington St. It's a cool retro style diner, and the overhang you see on the left is part of the drive-in section, where one can pull up their car and place an order without going inside or through the drive-thru.

Laundromat

Laundromat - through the window of a laundromat in Stayton Oregon

I was wondering around after dark a couple of nights ago, taking pictures of pretty much anything with lights, when I happened upon this laundromat on 1st Ave. Those are either washers or dryers in the photo.

Enter Night

Enter Night - sunset in Stayton Oregon

I want to apologize for posting two sunset photos within a week of each other (see also: Golden). The weather has finally warmed up enough for me to go out during the evenings on my scooter sometimes, and I can't resist taking sunset photos. At least it's a different type of sunset, in terms of color, framing, etc.

I took this near the corner of 3rd Ave. and Fern Ridge Rd.

Fey Asian

Fey Asian sign in Stayton Oregon

Fey Asian is a Chinese/American restaurant on E. Washington St., where they have incredibly good sweet and sour chicken. It's also my understanding they have great egg foo yung. I'd only eaten there for the first time a few days ago, so I believe further research is required. ;)

DP Theme Day: Numbers

One Of These Is Not Like The Others - post office boxes in Stayton Oregon

NumbersIt's time once again for the City Daily Photo theme day, which for May 1st is "numbers." My offering is of some of the post office boxes at the post office on 2nd Ave.

I'm a sucker for anything involving repeating patterns. I had thought about posting something involving Stayton's zip code, or phone number prefixes, but in the end, I liked this idea best.

Visit the links below for more city daily photo blogs participating in today's theme day!
