Breaking Open

Breaking Open - sun and clouds in Stayton Oregon

It was mostly overcast yesterday afternoon, but there was a nifty break in the clouds for a little while. I did my best to capture it, though I'm not sure how well it came through. Subtle clouds and sun rays can be tricky to photograph... at least, it's tricky for me.

I took this looking west from Wilco Rd., near Shaff Rd.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the monthly City Daily Photo theme day. Well over 100 CDP photoblogs participate each month.

Gently

Gently - a black eyed susan flower in Stayton Oregon

Since we're nearing the end of warm weather for the year, I've been on a flower hunt all over town. I need to get in as many as I can, don't ya know. This black-eyed susan flower was found across the street from Pioneer Park.

Be a guest photographer!

I am once again running out of photo ideas for Stayton. If anyone in the area (in Stayton, or any of the surround towns or countryside) have any photos they'd like to share here on the blog, I would be most grateful. You can email them to me at site (at) specialweb.com, along with any info you want posted with the photo, including location, etc. You would retain full copyright, and I'd give full credit, and a link back to your web site, if you have one. Check out previous guest photographer photos if you're curious as to what's been posted in the past. Thanks!

The Weakness In Me

The Weakness In Me - the back wall of the police station in Stayton Oregon

This... is a wall. With a crack on it. And a pipe running down it. Or maybe up, depending on how you choose to view it.

It's actually the back wall of the police station on 3rd Ave. Gosh, how exciting this is. Yep. Uh huh.

On a completely related note, I am once again running out of photo ideas for Stayton. Tommy Toes

Red Rows - ripe tomatoes in Stayton Oregon

Tommy Toes - ripe tomatoes in Stayton OregonThe Safeway grocery store on 1st Ave. had some lovely looking tomatoes on display in front of the building yesterday... couldn't resist getting a photo. Or two.

I thought about trying to juggle a few, but I doubted the employees and nearby customers would appreciate it if I dropped them and they splattered. Which they would.

Stroll

Stroll - stores and a sidewalk on 3rd Ave in Stayton Oregon

Just a shot of 3rd Ave., across from City Hall. I like the "old school" look provided by the decades old buildings... like it's from another time period.

Cut In

Cut In - the back of a building in Stayton Oregon

I'm having a serious case of brain drain, so I can't remember exactly where I took today's photo. I'm almost positive this is the back of a building on 3rd Ave., but I don't have a clue as to which one.

I think the wood part of the building was a doorway at one time, though with the pipe running across it, I think it's fair to say it has long since been closed off.

Trickle In

Trickle In - a macro of a sunflower center in Stayton Oregon

I don't normally post two flower macros in a row, but I've been trying to take as many flower shots as I can before the colder weather sets in and the flowers go away until next year.

This is the center of a sunflower I found across the street from Pioneer Park.

Queen Anne

Queen Anne's Lace flower macro in Stayton Oregon

The flower Queen Anne's Lace grows wild in these parts, and it's a flower I just love. That's especially true now that I've seen it up extra close via my camera's macro lens. The flower is actually comprised of several tiny flower... ettes? I don't know what to call them, but they really are adorable.

Central Receiving

Central Receiving - Norpac Cannery in Stayton Oregon

I had occasion to be in the lot on the west end of Norpac Cannery the other day (they provided the parking for the car show I attended), so I thought it would be a good chance to take a picture of one of the buildings from behind the fence which surrounds the property. This appears to be a docking bay for delivery trucks.

Smoke Signals

Smoke Signals - controlled field burning in Stayton Oregon

I went back out to the pond yesterday off of Cascade Highway (see the photo I posted the other day). As it happened, what appeared to be a field burning on an area farm field made for an interesting backdrop and reflection in the water.

Where I Can Be At Peace

Where I Can Be At Peace - sunset in Stayton Oregon

The sun was red on Wednesday night -- a beautiful, peaceful looking red. I think it might have been caused by some wildfires in the general area... not sure. Whatever the cause, it was lovely.

I took this from Lone Oak Cemetery.

More From The Stro's Wednesday Nite Cruise-In

Self Contained

Streak(See more car show photos in my Flickr photoset!)

Yesterday I posted some photos from the final Stro's Wednesday Nite Cruise-In car show. Since I took a lot of photos, I decided to carry it over to a second day. Because I can. :)

I've uploaded 22 more photos to my Flickr photoset of the event (the new ones are at the end of the list), for a grand total of 43 photos. I hope you'll give them a look.

Stro's Wednesday Nite Cruise-In

Classic Set - a car at sunset in Stayton Oregon

Deep Purple(See more car show photos in my Flickr photoset!)

Last night was the final Stro's Wednesday Nite Cruise-In car show at the A&W for the year. It always makes me happy to see all the pretty cars. Not that I know what most of them are, of course, but I do like to look at them.

I'm going to miss attending... it's a long wait until June of next year, which is when the car shows start up again.

I've uploaded 21 photos so far to a Flickr photoset, and will be adding more tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Spray - sprinklers at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Stayton Oregon

The sprinklers were on at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery a few days ago when I passed by. I didn't do the scene justice with my photo, but it was a lovely sight, with the water flying in the sunlight.

Time Of The Season

The Great Escape - a been on a fall crocus flower in Stayton Oregon

Time Of The Season - fall crocus in Stayton OregonA year ago I posted a few photos of some fall blooming crocus at Lone Oak Cemetery on 3rd Ave. A couple of days ago, I happened by the flowers again, so I thought it might be fitting to post another photo or two.

A cute little bee was hanging around, so forgive me for going into macro mode. The photo at right shows more of the flowers, plus you can sort of see some of the cemetery's tombstones in the background. Click on it to see the bigger version.

What A Wonderful World

What A Wonderful World - a pond and trees outside of Stayton Oregon

This is a view of a small pond behind a park and ride area off of Cascade Highway, just outside Stayton city limits. I'd never really stopped to look at it before, but I'm glad I finally did. I intend to go back to take more photos before too long.

Dead End

Dead End - Cascade Highway just outside of Stayton Oregon

Cascade Highway, the road which runs between Stayton and Sublimity, is presently in the middle of a two-week shut down where it branches off to Highway 22. Highway 22 is undergoing a large renovation project, so that part of Cascade Highway is also being renovated to accommodate. The road blocks in the photo span Cascade Highway.

Stayton Friends of the Library Used Book Store

A Book Lover's Dream BW

Reading NookI finally visited the new book store run by the Stayton Friends of the Library group. It shares space with the Art Gone Wild art studio. I was very impressed with the variety and amount of books, and there are still boxes left to put out. I probably could have just stood there drooling for hours. :)

If you're in the are, be sure to give the store a visit. It supports the library, plus you get to buy some nifty books. A definite win/win situation.

Thanks to Carol Tabor for letting me take pictures of the store. I appreciate it.

Be sure to visit the used book store's web site for hours and other information.

A Peek At The Skate Park

A temporary skate park in Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer Moe took a peek at the temporary skate park which has been set up in the Community Center parking lot. I have yet to go by there, so I appreciate Moe sending this along. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but it's my understanding there are plans to build a permanent skate park in the near future. I think it's a great idea.

A bit of info about the park can be found on the front page of the City of Stayton's web site.

Thanks, as always, to Moe for his contribution. It is always appreciated.

On a personal note -- today is the 7th anniversary of the terrorist attacks which occurred on September 11, 2001. It is on this day I am reminded how the United States came together and grieved as one. May we always remember what happened, and strive to always be a better country and people.

Careless In Its Disregard

Careless In Its Disregard - scouring rush in Stayton Oregon

This, if I'm not mistaken, is some scouring rush and some wild blackberry bushes, cohabitating and intertwined. But I've been known to be wrong. A lot. Whatever it is, I found it next to Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park.

Welcome To Stayton

Welcome To Stayton Oregon Sign

I posted a photo of the above sign a couple of years ago, but I was in the area, so I decided to take another. I like this one better. The sign is located at the south end of town, near where I took the photo of one of Stayton's city limits sign.

Dreams - a sign in Stayton Oregon

I spotted this sign in the window of a shop on 3rd Ave. I think it was Accents Northwest, but I'm not sure. It reads: "Dreams come a size too big so we can grow into them ~ Josie Bissett." I love it.

Welcome To Marion County

Welcome To Marion County - city and county limits signs in Stayton Oregon

A month ago I posted a photo of the city limits sign out E. Santiam St. I happened to be by the city limits sign south at the south end of town, which is also at the edge of Marion County, hence the second sign. I know, truly fascinating stuff. Hey, you try posting a photo every single day for over two years of a little town with less than 8,000 people. Sometimes I get desperate for subjects. :)

Even More From The Oregon State Fair

Oh... Hello There - a llama at the Oregon State Fair in Salem Oregon

(Click here for my Flickr photoset from the Oregon State Fair!)

Stand Up - black-eyed susan flowers at the Oregon State Fair in Salem OregonOver the last two days I've posted photos from the Oregon State Fair in nearby Salem, which wrapped up on Monday. I thought I'd bring things to a close today with photos of some of the animals and flowers found at the Fair.

The photo above is of an adorable llama. There were several of these adorable creatures, plus cows, goats, pigs, etc. The photo at right is of some black-eyed susans, which were part of the always lovely garden display.

If you visit my Flickr photoset of my photos of the Fair, you can see more animals and flowers, plus some other sights. I've added 28 more photos (they're the first photos listed in the set).

More From The Oregon State Fair

Slingshot - a ride at the Oregon State Fair in Salem Oregon

(Click here for my Flickr photoset from the Oregon State Fair!)

Sky Crossing - a ride at the Oregon State Fair in Salem OregonYesterday I posted a couple of photos from the Oregon State Fair in nearby Salem, which ended yesterday. I took a lot of photos while I was at the Fair, so I figured I'd post a few more over today and tomorrow.

It's my blog, I can do it if I wanna. ;)

The photo above is of a couple of brave souls on a slingshot style ride. The photo at left is of a chair lift which spans the entire length of the fairgrounds.

I've added about 20 new photos to my Flickr photoset (at the biginning of the set), this time focusing on some of the rides. Tomorrow I'll post some from the flower gardens and some animals in the barns. Stay tuned.

DP Theme Day: Sister City

At The Oregon State Fair in Salem, Oregon

(Click here for my Flickr photoset from the Oregon State Fair!)

Monkey Sea - Toys At The Oregon State Fair in Salem, OregonI'll be the first to admit I kind of fudged on today's theme, which is "sister city." Stayton doesn't have a true sister city, as far as I know, so I went about 15 miles down the road to Salem, which is Oregon's state capitol. To those of us in small town Stayton, Salem is our "go to" place for entertainment, stores, etc., which Stayton can't provide.

So I chose Salem. On Saturday, I attended the Oregon State Fair which is held at the fairgrounds in Salem every year. It's a big event, and always something to look forward to at the end of every summer.

I took a lot of photos while I was there, so I've created a Flickr photoset of those I've uploaded so far. There are several more yet to be posted, so I'll probably post another photo from the Fair tomorrow.

Jill at Salem Daily Photo has been posting some great photos from the Fair over the last handful of days. Be sure to visit.
