Autumn At The Jones Hotel

Autumn At The Jones Hotel in Stayton Oregon

This apartment building on the corner of 2nd Ave. and High St. was once known as the Jones Hotel. I love the brilliant colors on the trees on either side of the building.

By the way, Happy Halloween to all the ghosts and goblins out there. Stay safe, and eat some sugar-intensive candy for me.

Blaze Of Glory

Autumn leaves on trees reflected in water in Stayton Oregon

A few weeks ago I posted a photo of some trees next to my favorite power canal off of 4th Ave. The trees in that photo were mostly green, with hints of the Autumn color which was to come.

The photo above is of the same scene as before, but this time the color is entirely different. What a different a few weeks can make. I love autumn for all the beautiful colors to be found on the trees right now. It's really remarkable to me to see it each year.

Autumn Avenue

Autumn Avenue - a tree-lined street in Stayton Oregon

This sight was too pretty to pass up. Not that I would, I'm just sayin'. I didn't even come close to doing the brilliant color justice... the oranges and yellows were simply amazing to see.

This was taken on the corner of 2nd Ave. and Florence St. I actually paid attention to what street on was on this time. Woot.

Come & Sit Awhile With Me

Autumn leaf on a bench in Stayton Oregon

Yet another autumn leaves photo for today. I think I took this one near the pool at the Community Center complex, but I'm not entirely sure.

I'm Yellow & I'm Awesome

Yellow autumn / fall leaves in Stayton Oregon

Okay, yes, I'm posting yet another photo of autumn leaves. It's really not my fault -- they're everywhere around town right now! So, you know... blame Mother Nature.

Besides, in no time at all it will be winter and I'll be wishing I'd taken more photos of autumn leaves. So bear with me for a little while longer.

This photo was taken on 6th Ave.

Walk Through Autumn at Neitling Park in Stayton Oregon

I started a thing back in May where I took a picture of trees lining a path at Neitling Park. At the time, they were showing off pretty spring colors. I did the same in July, when the trees were a vivid green.

Today's photo is the autumn version. The trees haven't full changed colors yet, but the trees on the right are about to lose all their leaves, so I figured I should get the shot now before it was too late. I plan on doing this shot again in the winter, when all the leaves will be gone.

Bedding Down

Red and orange autumn leaves in Stayton Oregon

Yes, more random autumn leaves for today. I can't help it, they're just too pretty. I'm fairly certain these were taken near near the pool in the Community Center complex, though I'm not entirely sure. I lose track sometimes.

Alone & Misunderstood

An orange autumn leaf on pavement in Stayton Oregon

Another autumn leaf/leaves day, this time of a lonely little leaf in a parking lot. Poor little leaf, destined as it is to spend the rest of its time on earth on the cold, hard pavement. Unless it gets blown away. Or stuck to a car. Whatever.

Covering All The Bases

Covering All The Bases - mayor election signs in Stayton Oregon

This makes me giggle. Jack Fiske and Gerry Aboud are both running for mayor of Stayton. These two signs, which appear to be in front of the same business, apparently take an either/or approach to the campaign. Vote for this guy! Unless you vote for the other guy! Whatever works!

Maybe it's just a reminder to vote, which is a good idea. Since we already have our ballots here in Oregon (gotta love the statewide mail ballots!), it's super easy to do. I don't care which way you vote (I won't preach politics here... there are a bazillion other blogs for that), just be sure you do vote.

Find Me

Orange autumn / fall leaves in Stayton Oregon

Aspen's photo from yesterday inspired me to go out and take some photos of autumn leaves. The above is from a tree at Neitling Park.

I'll be posting more autumn leaves photos, since it's one of my favorite photo subjects. Stay tuned.

Enter Autumn

Oregon

Guest photographer Aspen Thomas sent in today's photo, taken a handful of days ago via camera phone. It was taken between the pool and tennis courts at the Community Center complex. The beautiful red on the tree really comes through beautifully.

Aspen caught the tree at the right time... I went to it a couple of days ago and it was rapidly losing its leaves.

Thank you, Aspen, for the lovely autumn color, and hi to you and your friend at Stayton High. I appreciate you two visiting so faithfully, and thanks for the great contribution. :)

Hey, Don't I Need To Sign A Model Release?

A brown cow animal in Stayton Oregon

My friends the cows on E. Jefferson St. were out and about in their field next to the road yesterday. I had six or seven cows gathered around the gate wondering what on earth I was doing. I took several photos, but haven't gone through most of them yet. The young one in the photo was just too cute.

I would like it to be known I made it through this whole description without making a single cow-related pun. I cud have done it, but I didn't.

Oh, wait. Uh, never mind.

By the way, Aspen (you posted a great camera phone photo in the comments a few days ago), if you're out there, could you email me [site (at) specialweb.com]? Thanks.

In Its Natural State

An old car in Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer Moe sent me today's photo of a nifty old car, saying "You like them old cars, how about one before it gets all spruced up and shiny?" Sounds good to me. It's very cool looking, shiny or not.

Thanks, Moe, as always.

A shed in a field in Stayton Oregon

Today's post is the final photo from guest photographer Sara Moberg (see also: Wednesday's, Thursday's, and Friday's posts). A cool shed in a field. I love the mood of the photo.

Thank you once again to Sara. I've really enjoyed posting her photos and sharing them with the rest of the world. Feel free to contribute again at any time. :)

Today's post is another photo from guest photographer Sara Moberg (see also: Wednesday's and Thursday's posts). I love the sense of motion it has.

I think I'm going to post one more photo from Sara tomorrow. She has a nifty one of a shed which would make a great post. Thanks again to Sara for sharing her photos.

Sunrise outside of Stayton Oregon

Today is day 2 of guest photographer Sara Moberg's photos (see also: yesterday's photo), which were taken on her way to work on or around W. Shaff Rd. This is a simply gorgeous shot of the sun about to peek out from behind the horizon. Lovely.

I'll be posting another of Sara's photos tomorrow. Thanks again to Sara for sharing her beautiful images.

RAK

RAK - stenciled letters in Stayton Oregon

Some train... well, not cars because there weren't any, but the undercarriage parts, were sitting on the tracks the other day down on the west end of Locust St. The above was part of the word 'brake' stenciled on the side of the whatever it's called.

This is the south side of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on the corner of E. Santiam St. and 6th Ave. I posted a partial front photo of the church back in February 2007. I should try the front again soon, since I now have a wider angle lens... well, that and the old photo is kind of boring. :)

Malibu

Chevrolet Malibu car in Stayton Oregon

I spotted this nifty older Chevy Malibu somewhere off of 1st Ave. the other day. I think it's from the late 1960's, but that's a wild guess on a few photos I viewed. I really have no idea.

Moving Made Easier

Moving Made Easier - U-Haul trucks in Stayton Oregon

Pointless photo time (as if my other photos aren't). Yes, friends, today's photo is of U-Haul trucks. And not only that, it's an over-processed photo of U-Haul trucks. What can I say except I wasn't feeling well and I was bored. Bad things happen when I'm bored.

This was taken on E. Water St., near 2nd Ave.

Presence Of Mind

Presence Of Mind - trees reflected in water in Stayton Oregon

The leaves in today's photo are just starting to turn pretty autumnal colors. That makes me happy. That those leaves will eventually fall off is the unhappy downside. But I'm happy to ignore that for now.

This was taken at my favorite power canal off of 4th Ave.

Heaven Only Knows

Heaven Only Knows - clouds and sun rays in Stayton Oregon

We've definitely moved into Autumn around here... it's colder, windier, and rainier. But all that can make for some lovely clouds, as was the case a couple of days ago. I love clouds.

This was taken just off of 10th Ave., next to the hospital.

M

M - bike rack outside of Roth's in Stayton Oregon

I'm not very good at minimalistic-influenced shots... I still want to center absolutely everything, which is kind of annoying. But this bike rack outside of the Roth's grocery store on Shaff Rd. caught my eye, and my OCD affected brain actually let me put it off center in the frame.

All of this really has nothing to do with anything, of course, but sometimes thinking up a caption to go with the photo is tough, hence my rambling.

One Last Hurrah

One Last Hurrah - a pink flower in Stayton Oregon

Over Done - a pink flower in Stayton OregoThis may well be my last flower photo for the year... unless I cave and post another. Only time will tell.

I took this a few days back, possibly on the south end of 7th Ave., or somewhere in the vicinity. As usual, I'm not sure what type of flower it is. If anyone wants to see a full on view of the same type of flower, please on the photo at right for a bigger version.

Chronic Obama Supporter

Chronic Barack Obama Supporter - a political sign in Stayton Oregon

I spotted this sign the other day... it wasn't until I took a closer look that I realized a sticker someone placed on it which reads "we love weed." I wonder who put that on the sign. No, it wasn't me, and no, it isn't my sign. :) I'm not going to say where I spotted the sign, because I don't want anyone to mess with it. It kind of makes me giggle.

Used Book Sale

Used Book Sale in Stayton Oregon

I went to the twice yearly Stayton Friends of the Library used book sale yesterday, and came away with a big bag full of books. As usual. I loves me some books.

The sale benefits Stayton's public library, which is a happy by-product of me getting books. Lots of books. Did I mention I love books? Because I love books.

Alone But Not Lonely - a yellow car in Stayton Oregon

I spotted this yellow car sitting all by itself in the corner of someone's yard. I don't know why it was there, but I prefer to think it was over there taking some time out for itself... you know, "me time." We all need that now and again.

I haven't a clue where I saw this car... somewhere near 5th or 6th St. I think.

Guess What's Coming

Guess What's Coming - Halloween pumpkins in Stayton Oregon

It's that time of year again -- the month of Halloween (here's the Wikipedia entry, for those unfamiliar with the holiday). Oh, sure, technically, Halloween is one day only, but it's grown to month-long decorations, and the stores start stocking Halloween items long before that.

I love it. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I look forward to it every year. The above pumpkins were found outside of Roth's, a grocery store on Shaff Rd. They have a great display of them each year.

DP Theme Day: Lines

Down The Tracks - railroad train tracks in Stayton Oregon

Today is the October 1st City Daily Photo theme day! This month's theme is 'lines.' I tootled all over town trying to think of how to represent the theme, and finally decided on the lines of the train tracks which run alongside Locust St. Lots of lines to be found there. I'm sure I'm not the only one to use train tracks for the theme.

Tomorrow I'll post my 'runner up' photo... one which didn't quite work for the theme, but I like it, anyway.

A whole big bunch of other CDP photoblogs are participating in today's theme day (remember, since they're all over the world in a wide variety of time zones, different blogs will update at different times). Check 'em out below:
