My Shadow Walks On Water
Saturday, January 31st, 2009I took this photo off of the little street bridge on 2nd St., next to the Jones Hotel building, pointing towards some water and hedges. It’s my shadow, plus that of the bridge’s railing.

The sun was peeking through the clouds yesterday, so I under exposed the shot so it would show something other than a large white blob. Instead, it shows a small white blob. That blob is the sun. Blob, blob, blob. That’s a fun word. Blob.
This is part two of a two-part post (see yesterday’s post for day one), showing some of the things revealed by the water being backed up at the power canal off of 4th Ave.
The photo above is of some mud and rocks which created a nifty pattern, and the photo at right (click on it [...]
It’s time once again to visit my favorite power canal off of the south end of 4th St. For whatever reason, a work crew of some variety was out two days ago working on or near the canal, and they had stopped the water flow so that most of the canal bed was exposed. Normally, [...]
Today is Fire Service Appreciation Day here in Oregon. It was recently declared by the state government as a way to bring recognition to the various fire service members around the state. Oregon.gov has some information up about the day, plus the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal is hosting Fire Service Appreciation Day at [...]
I’m fairly certain these are birch trees… or possibly willow. Or maybe something else entirely. Not a clue, really. I can’t remember what the trees look like when they’re not barren, even though I’ve passed by them any number of times in my life. The trees live a couple of blocks away (to the north) [...]
I took these 30-second exposure shots on Fern Ridge Rd., right after I took yesterday’s photo of the power sub-station. I happened to hit it when several cars were going by in both directions.
I hope you’ll
Today’s photo is of the power sub-station on Fern Ridge Rd. It looks pretty nifty at night. I had my tripod on hand (for once) so I was able to take a 15-second long exposure of it to properly (I hope) capture its niftiness.
Today’s photo is of Regis High School, the Catholic high school on Regis St. I happened to be in the neighborhood, so thought I’d get a shot of it. I posted another photo of the school back in 2007, taken from the other side of the buildings.
I know, somewhere deep down, you’ve been yearning for a random nighttime photo of the Circle K convenience store on Washington St. in Stayton, Oregon. You’ve come to this blog day after day just waiting for this. And now the day has finally come. You’re welcome.
I spotted these President Barack Obama related headlines in some newspaper vending machines yesterday. The Statesman Journal is our local daily newspaper (out of nearby Salem), and the USA Today is a national daily. Regardless of race, religion, or political beliefs, the inauguration of President Obama was a truly historic occasion for everyone. It stands [...]
Guest photographer Hugo has sent this very cool photo he took at Wirth Lake in nearby Salem. It is a 30 second exposure, where he “painted” the tree with a green hand-held laser. The effect is awesome, or as Hugo said, it’s eerie.
Thanks, Hugo!

Today’s photo is of Stayton High School, the town’s public high school on Locust St. I posted another photo of the school back in July of last year.
I’ve been taking this same shot at Neitling Park over the course of the last year or so, to show the difference in the trees during the various seasons. I would have liked to take this during the snow we had last month, but I wasn’t able to get to the park because of the [...]
Some folks were playing tennis at the courts near the Community Center where the used book sale was held on Thursday evening. They were brave people to play in the fog in near freezing temperatures.
