Windy City
We had a bit of wind early Friday morning… and by “bit” I mean “a lot.” There are tree branches all over the place in my neighborhood, and in some cases, there are trees toppled over, like the one above. This is my neighbor’s house, where fortunately no one was injured. Her family and a tree removal service spent yesterday trying to clean up the mess. I don’t know the extent of the damage, but I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks. It’s not good, of course, but at least the house is still standing.
At my house, one of my next-door-neighbor’s trees uprooted and fell across their fence, my fence, our storage shed (it’s kind of munched now), and the neighbor’s fence behind ours. The next-door-neighbor hasn’t been home, and our insurance company’s been inundated with wind damage claims and has to call us back, so the tree is still sprawled across our yards.
It could have been far worse, though, and we’re thankful no one was hurt, and that our homes are still in tact.

Having spent a lot of time in the aftermaths of Hurricanes Rita, Katrina and Ike, I can feel the relief and frustration in your voice… er … words.

Thanks, Steve. Our damage was nothing compared to what the folks in those hurricanes went through. It definitely helps to keep things in perspective.

Shannon, nah, the darned thing is still there. We’re all still trying to figure out who is responsible for what, and nothing’s actually been accomplished. Hey, ya want a free tree?
