South Falls In July
Jul 31st
New guest photographer Michelle “Shel” Capers sent in today’s beautiful photo of South Falls at Silver Falls State Park, which she took last Saturday.
Thanks, Michelle! I love all the green and water. Very cool.

Dials & Doodads
Jul 30th
There was a Stayton fire truck sitting at Pioneer Park the other day during the SummerFest, and I stopped and took this photo of the various gauges for the various functions the fire truck performs. There are a lot of things firefighters need to know in order to do their jobs, and I’m sure knowing what these gauges, etc., do and how to use them is just a small part of it. As I’ve said on here before, firefighters are awesome.
Birdfeeder & Flowers
Jul 29th
New guest photographer Doug Cameron sent in today’s photo of a lovely birdfeeder surrounded by flowers from his backyard. A peaceful scene to look at on a hot summer’s day. Thanks, Doug!

Santiam SummerFest – Car Show
Jul 28th
(See my Flickr photoset of this event!)
Today we have the final post from the 2009 Santiam SummerFest, held on Saturday. The car show took place at Neitling Park, and there were a lot of gorgeous cars on display. I wish I could have taken pictures of all of the cars… if it hadn’t been so warm, I would have gotten further than I did.
Next year I’d like to order 65-70 ° F for the SummerFest, if that’s okay with everyone involved.
I’ve put the photos I took into a Flickr photoset, if you’d like to see just a small sampling of what was there.
Santiam SummerFest – Street Fair
Jul 27th
(See my Flickr photoset of this event!)
As promised, here are some photos from the street fair part of the Santiam SummerFest, held on Saturday in downtown Stayton. I tried to give an idea of how many people attended in the photo above, but it wasn’t easy. The road the street fair was held on is pretty flat.
The photo at right shows a few of the public high school cheerleaders drumming up interest in their dunk tank booth.
Please have a look at my Flickr photoset of the event for more photos.
Tomorrow I’ll be posting photos from the car show portion of the SummerFest. Stay tuned.
Added bonus: Dave over at Stayton Events has posted his photos from the SummerFest.
Santiam SummerFest – Bed Races
Jul 26th
(See my Flickr photoset of this event!)
Yesterday was the 2009 Santiam SummerFest in downtown Stayton. I took a fair amount of photos, so I thought I’d spread things out over the next few days.
First up: bed races. Three teams showed up with rather cool bed racers and competed on a side street at the SummerFest. Mr. Fixet had a cool “Little Red Corvette,” complete with engine noises. Each time gave it their all, and it was fun to watch.
Be sure to visit my Flickr photoset of the event to see more photos.
I have to confess I don’t know who won… the heat was starting to get to me already, and the SummerFest had barely started, so I had to skedaddle along before I just curled up on a sidewalk and cried for my mommy.
Not that I would do that, of course. Nope.
Tomorrow I’ll post photos of the SummerFest itself, and then some of the classic cars from the car show after that. Stay tuned.
Shiny Happy People
Jul 25th
There’s a house down by Pioneer Park which has these sunflowers at the edge of their yard every year, so every year I try to make sure I get some photos of them. They also have black-eyed susans… I’ll probably post a photo of them next week.
Today is the Santiam SummerFest and classic car show in downtown Stayton, so I’ll be posting photos from there over the next couple of days. Provided the heat doesn’t do me in first.
Pfffffft

It’s been a while since I visited the cows who live on E. Jefferson St. So I stopped by yesterday and we visited. It was nice. They caught me up on all the latest bovine gossip, and I told them about the goings on in the human world.
But then the unthinkable happened: one of them stuck her tongue out at me. I was horrified, offended… and glad I had my camera out. It was cute.
Cool Shot Of An Old Bridge
Jul 23rd
Guest photographer Jon Goodman sent in today’s photo. Here’s his description:
Cool detail shot of an old bridge at Silver Creek Falls. What’s neat about it, is
the use of wood along with the formed concrete. Don’t see that much anymore. It must
be redwood, as it’s in much better shape than the crumbling concrete.
It is, indeed, a cool photo. Thanks, Jon, for sending it along, and at a great time. The power supply on my computer died today, so I can’t access my photos on my hard drive at the moment.
