Lost In Translation
Today’s photo is of the parking lot side of the Red Apple Chinese restaurant on 2nd Ave., next to the Post Office. I have no clue what the characters say, if anything. Maybe it’s the name of the restaurant. Dunno. I can’t just copy and paste it into Google Translate, so I’m a little lost. If anyone knows, please leave a comment or email me. Thank ya kindly.

You might want to try http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt for translating. It doesn’t translate images, but you can put in “Red Apple” and see if it matches. (I tried it and only the first character matched)

Thanks, Mike. I hadn’t thought to try it that way. Good thing other folks are smarter than I am.
I put some words in – ‘red apple restaurant lounge’ but I’m having trouble figuring out if any of them match.

Hi there. Chinese reader here to help out!
1st character: hong2, “red” (in simplified script)
2nd character: ping2, the first character of the word ping2 guo3, which means “apple” (in traditional script)
3rd & 4th characters: jiu3 jia1, “restaurant”, which is written the same way in both scripts.
So basically we have “Red Apple Restaurant” in mismatched characters.

Hi, glad you got you answer regarding the translation of the Red Apple Restaurant. Just out of curiosity, did you try asking the people who own the Red Apple restaurant? I notice the comments here are about a year old. I’m not sure how long the present owners have owned the Red Apple. If you haven’t eaten at the Red Apple please do so! I do not like Chinese food but I have to say I LOVE the food at the Red Apple! I’m amazed they are not packed all the time. All the food is freshly prepared at the restaurant (my favorite are the spring rolls) and fantastic. The owners are Su and Susie. They are great people. If you’ve never eaten there do yourself a favor.
