DP Theme Day: Big
Today is the September 1st City Daily Photo theme day. I thought about what to post for today’s theme day for most of August, but wasn’t really getting anywhere. Stayton’s a small town, and there’s not much here one might call “big.” That is, until I looked out the window a couple of days ago and looked up at some rather big Douglas-Fir trees. Figures the answer was literally right there all along.
I don’t know if I conveyed the theme very well with my photo, but I gave it a shot. This is looking straight up a Douglas-Fir. I don’t know how tall the trees around here run… Wikipedia estimates them at about 60–75 metres (200–250 ft) or more in height. Not bad. You’ll forgive me if I don’t climb one of the trees with a tape measure to verify that claim.

Well ‘snap’ I posted a tree on Menton too – a 2000 year old olive. I love your fir.

The trees of Oregon are almost all “big” and absolutely lovely. It is hard to convey their sheer size in photos, isn’t it? I tried to capture their size in our Silver Falls daytrip photos, but it just isn’t the same as standing beneath those giant trees…
I think it’s a great shot.
