Guest photographer John Brandt has been documenting the start of foot bridge connecting most of Stayton to the new park along the Santiam River. It’s due to be completed here very soon. The above photo shows cement poured into the moldings which will form the base of one side of the bridge. For more photos More >

It’s been a remarkably long time since I last posted a photo of my favorite Stayton landmark (February, to be exact), so it’s high time to do it again. Oh, Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park, I just can’t stay away. You call to me like a siren’s song. Or that could be tinnitus. Whichever. Speaking More >

Green-ness is the state of being green. This view of my favorite power canal off of the south end of 4th Ave. fits the bill. Kermit the Frog ain’t got nothin’ on this.

Guest photographer John Brandt sent in today’s photo. His description: Henry Strobel built this bridge about fifteen years ago as a Eagle Scout project. Within a few months all the railings had been torn off and later somebody tried to burn down what was left. The deck was repaired but until another Boy Scout came More >

I went to the Oregon coast on Sunday for a day trip, so I thought it might be fun to post some of the photos I took. We went to Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, and Newport, so I’ll probably post at least one photo from each of those places over the next few days. Today’s More >

Visitor and great idea person Jason Jones suggested I do a “then and now” comparison of the Stayton-Jordan Bridge. He pointed me to some photos in the Salem Library online archive of the bridge, taken around 1960. And so I shall. I don’t want to post the Library’s photos here because it would violate their More >

In a probably successful effort to drive a theme into the ground, I am presenting the third day in a row of clouds reflected in my favorite power canal off of the south end of town, along Water St. (see also: Ye Olde Barn and Natural Symmetry). This is the last photo of the power More >

I posted a photo of this nifty red barn back on January 2nd. When I took that photo, the sky was bright blue. I figured it might be interesting to take basically the same shot with a cloudy sky, just for grins and giggles. The clouds make a big difference, I think.

Back to my favorite power canal today. I had to — the reflection of the clouds and blue sky were too pretty to do anything else. This view is looking towards the old power company building (that brownish thing in the middle of the photo) on Water St. I’ll probably post another photo tomorrow of More >

This cool building sits at the edge of the power canal just off of 4th Ave. I don’t know what it is, but it’s on City property, I think. Anyone out there know what this building is or the purpose it serves? It looks like an old barn to me. By the way, sorry about More >
