Down By The River
It wasn’t the best day for it, since the weather was pretty drab, but I stopped and took some photos of the Santiam River from the bridge a couple of days ago, where it passes under Stayton-Scio Road. This is the view facing east. I wanted to get a shot facing west, but there were a fair amount of cars on the road and very little room on that side to stand.
Click on the thumbnail at right to see another view of the river.
For reference, here’s Google Maps Street View of the Santiam (basically the same view as the thumbnail photo).
I’ll have to go back one of these days when the weather is better and take more photos.

That river is so amazingly beautiful.
As an Iowa girl who moved out to Oregon on a whim in 2007, I will never forget driving from Stayton to Mill City and being absolutely blown away by the beauty of the Santiam as I caught glimpses from Hwy 22.
Not every river has an obvious current and whitewater – in fact, none in Iowa that I had seen did – and I hope Oregonians appreciate what an incredible environment they live in!

Shel,
I think we do appreciate it… at least, I know I do. Oregon is a beautiful state, and I am thankful to live here.
Good move, by the way.
