Quonset hut in Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer John Brandt sent in today’s photo of a building here in Stayton I’d never seen before. It’s a quonset hut (follow the link for more info). John asked local nifty person Kay Pendelton about the building’s history (she’s works with the Santiam Heritage Foundation), and she had this to say:

That quanset hut was built for Dick Schotthoefer as the office/repair area for his logging company. My father worked there in the 50s as a mechanic for the logging company. The building was not new at that time. I don’t know who actually built it because I was a little kid but I’m thinking that Ted Schotthoefer (son of Dick and Gertrude) might remember more about it. Bill Fair, in addition to being the local postmaster, was the accountant for the firm and worked in the office which is the protrusion facing north.

The building resides out E. Santiam St. Thanks to both John and Kay for the cool photo and info.
