Santiam Senior Center Grand Opening

(Click here to see my Flickr photoset of the grand opening!)
Yesterday I attended the grand opening of the Santiam Senior Center, at the invitation of Greg McWayne, president of the center’s non-profit organization. The new center is housed in a space provided by the Stayton Cooperative Telephone Company (SCTC), for a whopping $1 a year. SCTC really went out of their way to do what they could for the center (and will even be adding full cooking abilities to the kitchen), as did many other volunteers and sponsors. I’m pretty sure Stayton has never had a senior center before, and I think this one will be a great fit for the community.
Greg has created a Facebook group for the center. You don’t have to have a Facebook account to view the group page, but if you do have an account, you can become a fan (member) of the group.
The center’s first official open day will be on Tuesday, the 19th, and their hours will be Tuesday – Thursday, 10am to 4pm. Their address:
Santiam Senior Center
41818 Kingston-Jordan Rd.
Stayton, OR 97383
And their phone number is 503-767-2009. They are looking for donations — books, CD’s, televisions, couches, bookshelves, etc., so if you are able to donate, please contact them.
Good luck to everyone involved. It’s great to see the community come together to make this happen.
The mosaic above shows a bit of the grand opening, including the members of the board, Greg, and various attendees. You can visit the Flickr photoset I created for the various photos I took.
Here’s the Google Maps Street View of the building.
