Guest photographer John Brandt has been documenting the start of foot bridge connecting most of Stayton to the new park along the Santiam River. It’s due to be completed here very soon. The above photo shows cement poured into the moldings which will form the base of one side of the bridge. For more photos More >

It’s been a remarkably long time since I last posted a photo of my favorite Stayton landmark (February, to be exact), so it’s high time to do it again. Oh, Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park, I just can’t stay away. You call to me like a siren’s song. Or that could be tinnitus. Whichever. Speaking More >

Guest photographer John Brandt sent in today’s photo. His description: Henry Strobel built this bridge about fifteen years ago as a Eagle Scout project. Within a few months all the railings had been torn off and later somebody tried to burn down what was left. The deck was repaired but until another Boy Scout came More >

Today brings the final installment of my road trip to the central Oregon coast. This is another shot from a beach in Newport of some dog walkers and little dog… it just made me smile to see it. Here’s an aerial view of the beach on Google Maps. I’ve created a photoset at Flickr of More >

Here’s another installment from my central Oregon coast road trip. I’ve decided to make it an even week, so there will be another post tomorrow. These shots of waves was taken a bit south of Depoe Bay, if I remember correctly. Click on the photo at right to make it bigger. I had never taken More >

Today’s photo from my road trip to the central Oregon coast shows some fishing boats in the marina at Yaquina Bay in Newport. We’d come down there to see some sea lions (say that three times fast), but they were all hanging out back behind a building. Darn them. The photo at right is of More >

And here we are at part four of my mid-Oregon coast road trip (see also: Yaquina Bay Bridge, a Newport beach at sunset, and a pier at Siletz Bay, this time stopping in at Depoe Bay. I keep wanting to spell that as Depot, which is so very wrong. I shall try to refrain. This More >

Today is the third part of my trip to the central Oregon coast (see also: part 1 – Yaquina Bay Bridge, and part 2 – Newport beach at sunset). This is a small pier behind Mo’s Restaurant in Lincoln City. I’m a bit confused as to geography, but I think this is the edge of More >

Today is the second day of photos from my road trip to the Oregon coast on Sunday (see also: day 1 – Yaquina Bay Bridge). This photo of my nephew and his girlfriend was taken on a beach in Newport, about an hour before sunset. I have no idea which beach… I wasn’t driving and More >

Visitor and great idea person Jason Jones suggested I do a “then and now” comparison of the Stayton-Jordan Bridge. He pointed me to some photos in the Salem Library online archive of the bridge, taken around 1960. And so I shall. I don’t want to post the Library’s photos here because it would violate their More >

Yay! I love Stayton, but I love the coast even more! I hope you enjoyed your day trip! Can’t wait to see a few more pictures taken with your savvy eye!
And if you ever want guest photos of the coast, I can probably come up with a couple worth sharing.
Oregon’s coast truly is my favorite place on the planet. I miss it so!

Looking forward to the pictures of the Oregon coast. The coast is a great place to visit, but I don’t want to live there.
I like the Willamette Valley. I don’t like Eastern Oregon either.
I’m just like the moss between my toes!!
Bring on the coastal pictures.

Thanks to both of you. I love the coast, too, and it was great to go back after a handful of years away. I I think I could live there if there weren’t so many people around.
Shel, please feel free to send your photos along! I’d love to see them, and possibly post them here.
