The Sky is Falling, The Sky is Falling
Guest photographer Denny Barnes has been going a bit nutty recently:
I have a bumper crop of acorns this year. Anyone have a squirrel for rent. I need one because every nut that hits the ground grows. Feeding the cows this morning I noticed a couple leaves with puff balls or whatever you call them attached. So I made a little arrangement and took a shot. My oaks are always the last to shed their leaves so I can look forward to leaf clean up for the next month or more.
We get a lot of squirrels in my neighborhood, so I’ll be sure to ship a few over Denny’s direction.
Thanks, Denny!

Those balls are galls. They are caused by wasps who lay their eggs in the oak, which in turn causes the galls. Think scar tissue.
