Northern lights as viewed from the hills outside Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer Denny Barnes, who lives in the hills just outside of Stayton, brings us today’s gorgeous images of the northern lights (click on the thumbnail at right to see it larger). His description:

I went out to get the mail last night and when I looked to the north I forgot about the mail and ran for my camera. The Northern Lights was putting on a big display but by the time I got the camera set up it was disappearing pretty fast. I did manage to get a couple shots before it was gone. Most of the time it is red but once in a while green and blue are mixed in. This is the brightest one I’ve seen in several years.
