I took this off the end of E. Jefferson St., looking east. I had thought about posting it for yesterday’s theme day, but went with something else instead. So today we have trees. In a field. In black and white. And a description with sentence fragments. Exciting.

Vague Indications

I took this on Stayton-Scio Rd., facing west into the sun. It ended up over exposed in the light spots and too dark in the darker spots (which I expected), so I jacked up the contrast in Lightroom and converted it to black and white to try to give it a mood. Yay.

From the random file comes this photo of a hearse parked outside of Weddle Funeral Home on 3rd Ave. Because it was there. A hearse is an interesting looking vehicle… very distinctive. Practical yet somehow stylish. Still, I’d prefer not to ride in one until much, much later.

Parking Lot Noir

I took this a few nights ago in the parking lot of Santiam Hospital on 10th Ave. It was pretty foggy that night, and gave the scene kind of an old film noir effect.

Yesterday morning was the 19th Annual Santa Cruise at the Stayton Fire Department, a car show and breakfast benefiting Toys For Joy. I took several photos of cars and such, but haven’t gone through them yet. So instead I decided to post a celebrity — Santa Claus. It doesn’t get much bigger than that. He was doing a meet and greet with the various kids, young and old, and handing out candy canes.

Tomorrow I’ll post more from the cruise-in, and then after that I’ll have some photos I took at the holiday craft bazaar held at the middle school. I didn’t get to attend the town tree lighting, so if anyone has a photo of that you can send, that would be awesome. I took this photo for the City Daily Photo doorway theme day at the beginning of the month, but ended up using a different one instead. So I’m posting it now.

This is the stone stairway at the Holm Building on 2nd Ave. I posted a photo of the whole building back in 2006, but had never really paid attention to the stairway and door before. Kinda nifty.

Guest Photographer Hugo sent in today’s stunning image, taken at Cascades Gateway Park in nearby Salem. His description:

This is a picture of a homeless man in the park with well-worn hands.
His hands seemed to tell of a life of hardship, yet he still had his faith in those same hands.
I liked the lighting and used black and white to bring a hardness to the picture as a reflection of his life.

Ladies In Waiting

I went by Pioneer Park to see if any of the leaves had started to change colors yet (not so far) and saw these two ladies waiting for a photographer to finish setting up is gear so they could have their portraits taken. I know the quality of the image isn’t great… I took this from some distance away, and my telephoto lens is less than ideal. Or even mediocre.
