Won’t You Come And Wash Away The Rain
Jul 23rd
I took this the other night at Campbell-Grier Cemetery, just outside of Stayton. The silhouette is part of a metal decoration of a girl holding up a flower. That flower looks like a sun in silhouette, which made me think of the song “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden, which led to using part of the lyrics for the title of this post. Which is really more information than you needed, but what are ya gonna do.
In other news, I have a couple more guest photographers’ photos to post, once I get organized to do that. So if you’re waiting for me to do it, I apologize. You wouldn’t believe the week I had yesterday.
Beautiful Oak
Jul 9th
Guest photographer Terri Jo Adams sent in today’s photo of a lovely tree at Lone Oak Cemetery. Her description:
This isn’t all that unusual of a picture, I just have always thought this was one of the most beautiful Oak trees I’ve ever seen…..
It is beautiful. I always enjoy looking at the trees there. They’re like silent guards, keeping watch over the cemetery.
By the way, I want to thank the various folks who have sent photos in over the last week or two. Real life has been… challenging, I suppose is a good word, so other than Independence Day, I’ve barely had time to pick up my camera. Y’all rock, big time.
Rainbow Over Lone Oak Cemetery
Jun 28th
We have a new guest photographer today! Terri Jo Adams sent in today’s lovely image. Her description:
I was visiting my dad’s grave just after a storm passed through and caught a neat rainbow over Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. Just after I got this picture, the skies opened up again!
Thank you, Terri Jo, for sharing this moment of peace with us.
Good Morning To The Memories
May 23rd
I couldn’t sleep a few days ago, so I went over to the Campbell-Grier Cemetery just before sunrise to see what I could see. I don’t normally experience sunrises… mornings aren’t really part of my existence. I much prefer to be awake at night. I think I’m part vampire (the non-sparkly kind), or maybe owl (like Hedwig). I may post another photo tomorrow of the sunrise. Or I may not. I really should plan ahead. But I won’t.
Flag, Flowers, And Beer
Apr 16th
This assortment of items was left at the grave of someone buried in Lone Oak Cemetery. I bet there’s an interesting story behind why these particular things were left.
For those who care, the beer is Drop Top Amber Ale, made by a brewery out of Portland, Oregon.

Marking The Passage Of Time
Nov 14th
Guest photographer Jon Goodman sent in today’s photo of a gravestone marker which is slowing being overtaken by moss. He found it at Lone Oak Cemetery, which sits on the corner of 3rd Ave. and Fern Ridge Rd. Well seen, Jon… an image like this really says a lot about the passage of time. Thank you for submitting it.

Jumbled
May 28th
These plastic flower vases were near the shed at Lone Oak Cemetery when I stopped the other day to take a photo for Memorial Day. These vases are used to put flowers in so folks can place them on graves.
I think I may have posted a photo of them before, come to think of it. I’m not sure.
Remembering
May 25th
Today is the US holiday Memorial Day (read the Wikipedia entry to find out what it entails). I stopped by Lone Oak Cemetery, which is on the corner of 3rd Ave. and Fern Ridge Rd., yesterday to take this photo. A Stayton (our town was named for Drury Smith Stayton) family tombstone sits in the background.
