Drift On Forever Seeking
Aug 12th
It’s been a remarkably long time since I last posted a photo of my favorite Stayton landmark (February, to be exact), so it’s high time to do it again. Oh, Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park, I just can’t stay away. You call to me like a siren’s song. Or that could be tinnitus. Whichever.
Speaking of Pioneer Park, a free summer concert featuring singer-songwriter Tony Graham will be held there tonight from 6-8pm, according to StaytonEvents.com. I’m hopefully going to be there, provided real life doesn’t get in the way. It should be fun.
UPDATE: it turns out I was not able to attend the concert. If anyone took pictures, please let me know. Thanks!
Twice As Nice

Visitor and great idea person Jason Jones suggested I do a “then and now” comparison of the Stayton-Jordan Bridge. He pointed me to some photos in the Salem Library online archive of the bridge, taken around 1960. And so I shall.
I don’t want to post the Library’s photos here because it would violate their guidelines, so linkage will commence after a brief summary of the bridge.
Once upon a time (1937, to be exact, though some of the dates which follow might be a wee bit off), the Jordan Bridge was built over Thomas Creek at Jordan east of nearby Scio. It stood for almost 50 years before volunteers saved it from being torn down. Instead, the disassembled it and rebuilt it in Stayton’s Pioneer Park in 1985. A fire destroyed the bridge in 1994 so volunteers once again rebuilt the bridge in 1998. The current version stayed true to the original.
If you visit this link at the Library’s Oregon Historic Photograph Collections site you can view some great photos of the bridge as it was 50 years ago. I especially like this photo because it shows not only the bridge, but also the area around it (even an old car).
Thanks, Jason, for the link to the photos — I had no idea they existed — and for the great idea. I appreciate it a lot, especially since it gave me an excuse to take more photos of my favorite bridge.
Stand True
Dec 29th
The other day, after I lamented not being able to post Christmas-related photos until next December, Hugo commented the Jordan Bridge, a covered bridge at Pioneer Park, is always waiting for me. That inspired me to go take a picture of my favorite Stayton landmark and most frequent photo subject.
Thanks for the awesome suggestion, Hugo. I hadn’t posted a photo of the bridge since July. That’s way too long.

It Draws Me In
May 9th
Okay, so I know I’ve already posted photos of the Jordan Bridge twice in the last couple of weeks (photo one and photo two), but I’m drawn to the darned thing like a moth to a flame.
I went to Pioneer Park a couple of days ago to check out the flowers there, and didn’t really mean to take a photo of the bridge. Really. But when I was following the woodpecker from yesterday’s post, it left me in perfect position to see the above. I took the photo without even stopping to think. Which is how I do most things, really.
This Is Why I’m Here
May 1st
Okay, yes, I have posted photos of the Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park about a gazillion times. But this one is different, I swear! See, it has a whole bunch of pretty pink blossoms in front of it! That’s so totally different. I think. At least, I don’t remember taking it from this perspective before. I’ve been wrong before.
No, I’m right (bet you’re as surprised as I am), I haven’t done this shot before. If there’s an perspective of this bridge I haven’t done, you can be sure I’ll get to it eventually. I kind of love it, after all.
Getting Married At The Bridge
Apr 23rd
Okay, technically, they were just getting their photos taken by the bridge, but there must have been a wedding involved at some point. I had popped by Pioneer Park, where Jordan Bridge is located, to take some photos, but it was overrun with people celebrating some sort of event. When I drove down by the bridge itself, this couple (to the left of the bridge) was getting photos taken (you can kinda see the photographer’s head along the left side of the bridge).
I don’t know if the wedding had already happened, or they were getting the photos done before hand. I didn’t stick around, since I would have been in the way of all the activity.
A Nice Place To Take A Break
Mar 27th
It’s time once again for a photo of my favorite Stayton landmark, the Jordan Bridge at Pioneer Park. It’s not my fault it’s so photogenic. But this time the photo is totally different because there’s a person on it talking on a mobile phone! Yes, that makes it completely and totally okay that I last posted a photo of the bridge only a couple of weeks ago.
