For those who don’t know, Porter & Lau, also known as Porter TV & Appliance, was an electronics and appliance store in downtown Stayton on 3rd Ave. The long closed building is still there, and this neon sign is still lit after all these years. I adore this sign, so extra thanks to Jon for sending in the photo. I’m glad it’s still turned on.

I think the sign on this motorcycle shop, The Eagles Nest on 1st Ave., may mean only those on four wheels. Two-wheelers seem to get an exception.

This reader board at Stayton Cleaners on Washington St. made me chuckle. I can’t decide if two guys named Al Erations and L. Ather are asking for folks’ laundry, or if ol’ Al wants to lather someone’s laundry all by himself.
For the curious, the two missing letters on the sign are ‘t’ and ‘e’.

Today’s photo is of the parking lot side of the Red Apple Chinese restaurant on 2nd Ave., next to the Post Office. I have no clue what the characters say, if anything. Maybe it’s the name of the restaurant. Dunno. I can’t just copy and paste it into Google Translate, so I’m a little lost. If anyone knows, please leave a comment or email me. Thank ya kindly.

This sign lives at one of the parking exits at a veterinarian clinic on 1st Ave. So, you know, don’t turn left there.

Guest photographer Jon Goodman sent in today’s photo of a Stayton sight I’ve never noticed before. His description:
This roadsign sits on a pole on the cannery’s property where Gardner tees into Washington. Maybe that’s why it’s never been removed. This is one of the last of it’s kind locally. It’s a reminder of a time [...]

Very cool find, Jon. Thanks so much for sending it in.
