Guest photographer Gary Jones sent this very pretty photo of a rainbow he took from Highway 22 looking towards Sublimity. The sky is beautiful, with the clouds adding drama to the rainbow. Thanks, Gary!

By the way, Dave over at StaytonEvents.com has two slideshows up from the wind storm we had on the 1st, including the backyard of the house I posted on Saturday.

Guest photographer Moe has sent along some photos of downed trees at Pioneer Park. It looks like some big ones went down. I didn’t do it. The wind storm which followed the snow/ice we had a handful of days ago obviously took its toll. It looks a lot like my backyard, actually (see yesterday’s post).

We had a bit of wind early Friday morning… and by “bit” I mean “a lot.” There are tree branches all over the place in my neighborhood, and in some cases, there are trees toppled over, like the one above. This is my neighbor’s house, where fortunately no one was injured. Her family and a tree removal service spent yesterday trying to clean up the mess. I don’t know the extent of the damage, but I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks. It’s not good, of course, but at least the house is still standing.

At my house, one of my next-door-neighbor’s trees uprooted and fell across their fence, my fence, our storage shed (it’s kind of munched now), and the neighbor’s fence behind ours. The next-door-neighbor hasn’t been home, and our insurance company’s been inundated with wind damage claims and has to call us back, so the tree is still sprawled across our yards.

It could have been far worse, though, and we’re thankful no one was hurt, and that our homes are still in tact.
