House Made Of Sticks

House Made Of Sticks - new home construction in Stayton Oregon

I spotted this new home being constructed on 10th Ave. the other day, and thought all the lines on the roof part were nifty.

This house sits up a bit of a hill from another new home I photographed back in 2006. The houses are basically back-to-back, though there is some space between them.

Under Construction

Under Construction - a new house being built in Stayton Oregon

This is one of several new homes being built off of E. Jefferson St. I'm not sure what the land used to be... I'm guessing farm land since the new neighborhood sits right next to some farm fields, but I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time, and definitely not the last.

Stayton Public Library Expansion Update

Stayton Public Library Expansion Update in Stayton Oregon

Time once again for my periodic photo of the Stayton Public Library to show how far along they are in the expansion construction which will more than double its size.

So here it is.

:)

Okay, some actual information of the informational variety: according to the library expansion foundation's web site, the building will add 7500 square feet to its existing 5000 square feet.

The construction should be completed within a few weeks. They've raised over 2 million dollars through fund raising, grants, etc. I've just been amazed how this pretty small community has put this much time, effort, and money into this project. It's rather cool.

Note: I actually took this photo a week ago, so it's probably a bit further along than pictured.

Previous library construction photos:I missed getting a photo in May. It's just one of those things.

Now It's Gone

Now It's Gone in Stayton Oregon

Last month I posted a photo of Stayton Bowl, Stayton's only bowling alley. Its roof collapse a few years ago and had been closed ever since.

I had been hoping the alley would eventually reopen, but as you can see in the photo above, it was torn down instead. It's quite sad to see it go. It had been around since the late 1950's.

Bye bye, bowling alley. You shall be missed.

Stayton Public Library Construction Update

Stayton Public Library Construction Update in Stayton Oregon

Stayton's library has been undergoing construction for an expansion over the last several months, and I've been posting photos of its progress here and there. This photo is of the back side of the library, taken from the park behind the building. The library is getting very close to completion.

Previous photos can be found here (from March) and here (from February).

Stayton Library Expansion Update

Stayton Public Library Expansion Update in Stayton Oregon

I've been posting photos here and there over the last handful of months, documenting the expansion efforts at the Stayton Public Library.

This is the latest, taken a few days ago. I was surprised to see so much progress since I last posted a photo of the library back in February. It looks good.

Stayton Bowl

Stayton Bowl in Stayton Oregon

Stayton has a bowling alley, but it's a bit under the weather at the moment. Or, rather, a bit exposed to the weather. The roof decided to cave in one day, so the building's been closed for some time, now. It appears they're working on fixing it. I hope so. That place has been around for many years, and I'd hate to see it closed permanently.

Library Expansion

Public Library Expansion in Stayton Oregon

Back in November, I posted a photo of the beginning stages of an expansion of the public library here in Stayton.

They've made some significant progress. I read the other day they've raised $2 million of the roughly $2.3 million needed to complete construction. This community has really come together to make the bigger and better library a reality. Gotta love that.

In the photo, the existing library is on the left. The construction will add significant size to the library. I can't wait to see it when it's completed. You can be sure I'll be taking photos.

House Building, Part II

House Under Construction in Stayton Oregon

Back I November, I posted a photo of a home under construction. There were some questions about it (mostly about the outer walls), and I promised to post a photo when it was finished.

Well, it's almost there, so I figured this was close enough. The strange outer walls have been covered by whatever they've been covered with (Siding? Wood? Magic fairy dust? I really have no clue), so they don't look so strange anymore.

A helpful person named Susan posted a link on the original post to close-up photo of what the weird walls are made of -- waferboard. Thanks, Susan.

House Building

House Building - new home construction in Stayton Oregon

Another new home is being constructed, this time just off of 6th Ave. in Stayton. The workers on the roof in the photo are brave souls... makes me dizzy just to look at them up there.

My favorite part of the photo? The colorful trees behind the house, of course. Gotta love autumn.

The public library in Stayton is undergoing construction at the moment. Soon, the fences, construction equipment, etc., shown in the photo above (more or less -- the fence blocked most of the view) will disappear and in its place will be a bigger and better library. I can't wait.

Houses, Houses, Everywhere...

Houses, Houses, Everywhere... in Stayton, Oregon

Yet another new home is currently under construction in Stayton. This one has me particularly sad because it's being built where a wooded lot used to be. When I was a kid, a lot of us neighborhood kids would play there in our own little forest. At one point, some of the kids built a nifty dirt bike track going down the hill.

Two or three other houses had already gone into the lot, and this house will completely fill up the area. Things change, I suppose. At least a few of the trees have been kept. And it looks like it's going to be a nice house.

I hope they plant more trees. And bushes. And flowers. Anything green is good in my book. :)
