Snow At The Cemetery

Snow At Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton Oregon

Lone Oak CemeterySince most of the snow seems to have melted around here, I figured I'd post snow photos once more before moving on to other things. Today's photos were taken at Lone Oak Cemetery on the corner of Fern Ridge Rd. and 3rd Ave.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the February 1st city daily photo theme day. I'm still undecided about what I'm going to post... I'm torn between two themes. We'll see what happens.

Snow Fields

Snow Fields - fields covered in snow in Stayton Oregon

I took the above shot near where Fern Ridge Rd. meets Highway 22. It's scenes like this that make me forget the mess snow and ice makes for driving and the like, because nature is just so darned pretty.

Snow Day

Reaching Out With Cold Fingers - snow on a bush in Stayton Oregon

We had a fair bit (for us) of snow yesterday. At my house, we had roughly 2.5 to 3 inches. So that means a snow picture from me today, and one or two very nifty shots from a guest photographer tomorrow. And maybe more from me after that, depending on how long the snow sticks around. Or if I can't find anything else to post. ;)

Looking For Signs Of Life

Looking For Signs Of Life - a barren tree in Stayton Oregon

I had plans yesterday to go out and about to take pictures, but the weather had other ideas. It stayed near freezing, and there were even little snowflakes in the air. That's all very bad when one rides a scooter. Brrrrrr.

So I took a picture of some branches on a barren filbert/hazelnut tree in my backyard. Yay.

Snow In The Hills

Snow In The Hills - outlying hills with areas of winter snow in Stayton Oregon

This view is looking out past Stayton to some hills. They are, in fact, the same hills I posted back in November (taken from almost the same spot), only with snow on them this time.

I wish I could have included more of the hills in the shot, but there were a bunch of trees in the way, so this was the best I could do.

Walk With Me

Walk With Me - a path next to the Stayton Public Library at Community Center Park in Stayton Oregon

I took today's photo on a path which runs next to the public library and goes back to Community Center Park. The moss on the path was a vivid green, almost outdoing some nearby grass in terms of color. I set the camera on the ground and angled it up a bit to get the perspective and short depth of field.

Snow In the Morning

Snowy Trees in Stayton Oregon

Guest photographer Ronda Faught captured the above image of a brief snowfall in the Stayton area a few days ago. Tomorrow I'll post another image from Ronda of a very different looking sky taken on the same day.

Aren't the branches on the trees rather nifty? For some reason, it looks to me like the fir tree on the left is trying to hug the one on the right.

The photo was taken in nearby Sublimity.

Cascade Foothills

Cascade Foothills outside of Stayton Oregon

Stayton sits near the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. It's easy to forget, since there are so many trees in town to block the view, but the foothills can be seen if you take the time to look.

Today's photo was taken while standing on top of a hill on 6th Ave., looking... um... east? Southeast? Something like that. I had to shoot it through some trees, but that's pretty much a given when you're in Stayton. The foothills are covered in trees and some snow.

I wish I could go to outskirts of town to take better photos, but my little scooter can't go outside of town (it's a speed thing). If anyone out there has photos of the Cascades, or something else scenic or interesting or pretty (you get the idea) you'd like to have posted here, please send 'em on over. My email address is at right, under 'to contribute.' Thanks!

Snow-Covered Wood

Snow-Covered Wood in Stayton Oregon

The snow may have melted here, but apparently I'm not ready to stop posting snow-related photos. I just can't help myself.

Today's photo is of some wood things which border Neitling Park, which is just north of (and just across a side street from) Pioneer Park on the corner of 7th Ave. and Marion St. I don't know if these are benches, or are meant to keep cars out, or both.

Most of the little divots in the snow on the wood are kitty paw prints.

Silver Falls State Park dressed for Winter, Part II

Silver Falls State Park dressed for Winter, Part II - Near Stayton Oregon

A beautiful sunny winter day at Silver Falls

Here's the second photo from guest photographer Ronda Faught of nearby Sublimity. It's yet another beautiful photo of the falls at Silver Falls State Park, which is about 16 miles northeast of Stayton. I simply adore this photo.

If you missed yesterday's photo, click here. It is definitely worth viewing.

Silver Falls State Park dressed for Winter

Silver Falls State Park dressed for Winter in Oregon

A beautiful sunny winter day at Silver Falls

I have a definite treat for everyone today! Guest photographer Ronda Faught of nearby Sublimity took two stunning photos of the falls at Silver Falls State Park, which is about 16 miles northeast of Stayton. The photos were taken on January 14th.

This is nature at its finest. I'll be sharing the other photo tomorrow, so be sure to check back.

Sam the Snowberry Man

Sam the Snowberry Man in Stayton Oregon

Friends, it's time to use your imagination. The snowberries above remind me of a head, complete with hair, eyes, etc. Do you see it?

The snow on top is the hair, the top two berries are the eyes, and the bottom berry completes the rest of the face. See it yet?

Okay, maybe I'm insane. But aren't they cute little snowy snowberries, what with the snow on top and all?

Snow Driving

Snow Driving in Stayton Oregon

Yet another photo of the snow from a few days ago. This photo came out like you see above... overexposed and a bit blurry, but I ended up liking the effect. The falling snow gives it an interesting texture. It kinda looks like it was photoshopped to be that way.

We've had a definite cold snap this last week, with high temperatures not even reaching freezing, which isn't normal around here. That should break on Tuesday, so hopefully I'll be able to go out and take new photos. Going out in 20-something degree (Fahrenheit) weather on a scooter isn't so fun, you know? :)

Snowy Branch

Snowy Branch in Stayton Oregon

Another photo from Stayton's big huge (or not) snowfall of Wednesday and Thursday. This time it's of a rather small tree branch piled with snow. I like how the texture of the snow comes through in the photo. It's amazing the things a camera can capture the human eye can't really see all that well.

There's Snow On That There Hill

There's Snow On That There Hill in Stayton Oregon

It snowed again today. It was a bit more than yesterday, but still not very much, and it didn't last. I did, however, take more photos before it melted. I consider it my sacred city daily photo blogger duty. ;)

Today's photo is of some Douglas-fir trees in front a rolling hill which is a bit north of here, between Stayton and nearby Sublimity. Those are farm fields on the hill.

Framed

Framed in Stayton Oregon

It snowed yesterday. It didn't amount to much, and melted away pretty quickly. I did take some photos, though, so you can fully expect me to milk the snow thing for all it's worth for at least two or three days.

Today's photo is 'framed' by two Douglas-fir trees, and shows the snow falling amongst the branches.

A Little Snow And Hail

A Little Snow And Hail in Stayton Oregon

Monday brought a great big huge enormous weather event in the form of some hail and a bit of snow. It was simply terrible trying to trudge through the mildly damp street to get to the snow, which only stuck to yards and rooftops.

I decided to take my photo from a neighbor's yard, since I don't think they would have appreciated me trying to climb up onto their roof. I wouldn't have appreciated me trying to do that, either. ;)

For other Pacific Northwest snow photos, check out Seattle Daily Photo, Not Strictly Seattle, and Sequim Daily Photo, all in Washington.

We have a decided lack of Oregon daily photo blogs, being as I'm the only one in the City Daily Photo group. There was a Portland one for a bit, but it didn't last. I'm so lonely. *sniff*

The cooler

A tree covered in show - stayton oregon winter january

Here in the USA, we're gearing up for summer. That means warmer weather, lots of sun (yes, it does get sunny here in Oregon, contrary to popular belief), and me staying indoors because I'm not all that fond of the heat.

So here's a picture from winter 2004 to remind us of cooler times so maybe the heat won't seem so bad. For those of you heading into your winter months now, then, um... well, never mind. Forget I said anything. But isn't the tree pretty?
